14 hours since the FN break started and people are already bickering…I’m already dreading the offseason
I didn't mean to touch a nerve, and wasn't aware if you even had kids. But I will stand by what I said. Just telling people to "stand up" for themselves isn't always the cure for hazing/bullying.Do me a favor and don’t talk about my children. Got it?

I will f***ing pop Jeremy in accounting in the f***ing mouth if he says one more goddamn thing about mileage accruals!I don't know where you work, but in a normal work place you probably go up to your boss/HR, instead of handling it yourself.
Fill out your expense report properly or it's going to mean bloodI will f***ing pop Jeremy in accounting in the f***ing mouth if he says one more goddamn thing about mileage accruals!
Who knows if true but maybe... just maybe... lends SOME credibility to Roenick's claim of everyone on the Hawks shaking hands with Hawks legends except Bedard.Speaking of crybabies, how about the Blackhawks and Bedard? Blackhawks with a quicker and more emphatic response to Biz than to assault.
I thought Biz's analysis was pretty spot on. Wasn't doing his annoying podcast frat boy bit, he provided some actual analysis backed up by video. They probably know it's true too, which is why they immediately went the attack the messenger and his career route rather than what he actually said. Maybe I'm getting to the get off my lawn point but I didn't think Bedard came off all that great either when asked about it.
No rest for the wicked and weary.14 hours since the FN break started and people are already bickering…I’m already dreading the offseason

Need a place to stay while you're here?I will personally fly from Finland to Denver to drive Mittelstadt+Wood to the airport for Kadri
I’m starting a revolution over accounting departments refusing to just take 5 seconds to input the obvious missing tax code themselves and instead wasting more people’s time by rejecting the whole damn report for simple correctionFill out your expense report properly or it's going to mean blood
Excuse me, I can't take this. You put your lunch purchase under "travel/lodging" and not "meals". This isn't even worth the paper it's printed onI’m starting a revolution over accounting departments refusing to just take 5 seconds to input the obvious missing tax code themselves and instead wasting more people’s time by rejecting the whole damn report for simple correction
In my opinion "Masculinity" doesn't mean you have to punch someone in the face because they said words to you, though. Masculinity is more than just testosterone fueled rage and violence. It's not p***y to not get into a physical altercation. That's my problem with how Petterson is portrayed here. Sometimes that's the smart thing to do. If Petterson can control himself around someone who is being the aggressor then more power to him. Responding to hateful words with violence doesn't make you a man. That's a toxic response. And these are pros who rely upon their hands, heads etc to earn a paycheck. Throwing around punches and risking that over some douche being a douche is counterintuitive.Masculinity is a thing no matter how many people find it distasteful. It can be ugly and dumb, but pretending like it doesn't (or even shouldn't) exist is even more dumb.
No one said you have to punch someone in the face necessarily. But avoiding it all costs will be noticed and judged by those around you who depend on your physical prowess for victory. In my opinion "Masculinity" doesn't mean you have to punch someone in the face because they said words to you, though. It's much like everything there's a scale to it. From passive through to aggressive. Being at one end of the spectrum vs the other doesn't change whether you're a man or not, despite what society loves to tell you.
It sounds like Miller was the prick here, as I think we all knew anyway, and Petterson decided not to escalate the situation.

This dynamic is simply true. Again, I'm not saying that there is only 1 path, or that you can't be intelligent with expressions of masculinity. I'm simply suggesting that looking weak is looking weak. You have to do SOMETHING, and that thing has to be deemed a good and/or powerful response in the face of adversity.
I also didn't claim that responding with violence or "hate" makes you man. My claim is that dealing with violence an hate is part of being a man. Sometimes throwing a punch IS the right thing to do. Denying that denies an aspect of masculinity for better or for worse.
I do find it strange that this is controversial in a hockey forum of all places.
These are fair points, my main point of contention is Petterson is not a "p***y" for not turning violent. That characterisation of men is nonsense and prehistoric. Sometimes the right path may be something physical. Sometimes it may be not. These guys were in a public space. In a champagne bar where they had probably been drinking and it was likely full of glassware and the members of the general public. Not getting violent here would be the right call in my opinion. But to each their own.No one said you have to punch someone in the face necessarily. And maybe a slap on the ass @RoyIsALegend
Yeah what if they broke the good china?!In a champagne bar where they had probably been drinking and it was likely full of glassware and the members of the general public.
Yeah, I'm not trying to suggest Petterson is or is not a p***y because I wasn't there. But I don't think the story makes him look particularly good, even if JTM was a complete douchbag and the impetus for all of the drama. These are fair points, my main point of contention is Petterson is not a "p***y" for not turning violent. Some of my best friends growing up were all guys I had gotten into fights with.I guarantee if Petey had punched JTM in the face, it would’ve ended with a couple of good old ass slaps and they’d move on.
Everyone is wired different. I've never been in a fight my entire life and I'm 31, not even when playing hockey for 15 years growing up. I was and still am extremely patient and mild-mannered. I've had teammates like Miller and never gave them even an ounce of second thought or attention. Some of my best friends growing up were all guys I had gotten into fights with.
