It never stops....Okay....so let's try this but let's make it more difficult....

Ben Merrill is terrible
Logan Sawyer is underperforming
Tyler Thorpe is just invisible

Note that there are players who are just off limits. And not worth my magic....Jack Smith...Luke Middlestadt.....Emmett Croteau...there's a freakin limit to any magic...

Sorry, it doesn't ring true ; put some heart in it.

Owen Protz year offensively is rather....dissapointing. Early but strange decision to go with him while Kevin He was available. A LD with rather a low ceiling...wonder what they saw....

Having seen a few Brantford games this year, I'd actually say he's been having a very good D+1 season all told, he's probably the second best dman on the team by a decent margin. He'll never be much of a point producer, but he's on target to beat his total from last year by 10 points, so there's some mild progression on that front. It's really not his game though, I wouldn't put much stock into that, he's very much a defense first type.

Depends on his usage too. If no pp time, can't be surprised

You could literally question that with pretty much all of the Habs picks outside the first round.

I'm not sure why you find it disappointing. Protz wasn't really drafted for his offensive abilities. He was drafted because he's a big body who plays a hard nosed brand of hockey.

Think Arber Xhekaj in the sense that Arber wasn't an offensive defenseman, either. But he's big, plays mean, and has a presence. They probably saw something similar in Protz and instead of finding an undrafted like Arber and try convincing him to choose you, they selected one.

Beck? Hutson? Struble? Tuch? Fowler? Kapanen?

All taken after the first round.
Yeah, but for that I forgot to add for 2024.

That draft kinda sucked and it makes it worse when you look at players you liked that went after a certain pick and they're doing better to way better.

Protz will never be a big score sheet guy, but he hurts people.

For what it's worth, I thought Protz was one of the more impressive players at this past summer's rookie camp. He skates well, has good offensive instincts and skills and hits like a truck.

Any offence he can add will just be a bonus.,

100%.

I just meant it more as the Habs scouting staff did a really shitty job this draft.

The ones outside of the 1st round that are doing ok are Thorpe, Protz and Sawyer.

I would suggest that If you can secure more than one bona fide prospect past the first round, it’s been a good draft. It’s missing on your first round picks that undermine your franchise, whether your team is in the process of a re-build or attempting to build on or maintain an already established level of success.

While one may question some of the current regime’s personnel decisions, their drafting record has, at least to date, been insightful.
