GDT: 2023 WC GROUP A: Finland versus USA

For the big teams the tournament-format is so boring that it is very good to have some unexpected results.

I haven't had this bad feeling about Finland’s WHC team in the beginning of the tournament since 2018. And then we had a great roster, but just a bloody awful coach in Lauri Marjamäki.

This game looked even worse than what I had the feeling it would be. No medals this time for Jalonen and his team. Even he will not make anything about this team. Way too many relatively mediocre players who are mostly way past their best before date.

He looks worse now than he did when he was 18 tbf. I think the train already left the station there.

This was one of the problems I also mentioned in Team Finland-thread already before the tournament started. This is in fact an enormous problem. A collection of woodhands as the defencemen basically. Well, Lehtonen does have some puck skills, but he is definitely the only one then. And he didn’t look good at all today either.

Not trying to be a smartass because I pre ranked them as 8th and boy as that aging poorly

BUT

They've been on a nice tidy run here

3 of the last 4 tourneys had the US in the Semi's and they medalled twice.

FInland with 2 golds and a Silver
Canada with 1 gold and 2 silver
US with 2 bronzes

Czechs, Swiss and Russia with 1 each.

Canada is the only nation to reach the final 4 all 4 times.

That's the last 4 years

This team is having so bad double gold hangover as ever possible.

Finland played 20 minutes of 60 minutes game.
