I don’t think they planned to have Espinal in that spot…
Dunno i mean the only two position players on the bench who are not catchers are Espinal and Biggio. Unless you have 0 injuries all year long and never rest guys you kind of plan for him to be there once in a while. The bench needs to be upgraded i'm not sure why there's even a discussion about this. It's clear as day.

Doesn’t matter he was batting #2 in Bo’s spot. Plus Springer was on the bench and given the full day off. Not saying we shouldn’t look to upgrade on Espinal as I’ve been suggesting the contrary for awhile now, but that final AB was him hitting for an in-game injured Bo. If it was a day off or Bo wasn’t available then Espinal wouldn’t be batting #2 in the lineup.

I don’t feel comfortable with Bassitt starting in the playoffs.

It depends on who he is facing. He struggles against the lefties. The O's aren't a good matchup for him.

This is my concern as well. Not sure if you can trust him in a potential series vs Baltimore or Tampa given his issues versus lefties. He wasn't terrible tonight, but dug a hole early and got hit hard.

Why do you answer me?

I have no use for your shit takes while trolling the Leafs board as a fan of another team.
I replied to your reply to me.

The Jays are exactly where most expected them to be. Why crap on them?

The achilles heel of this team. Great in almost every other offensive category but that one.
They may not have a 30 home run hitter by the end of the year. That is SAD.

August 1st and they have two guys at 17.

Jays need a bat(s) today. They can't hit. Keep adding pitching but it's not their problem. They 24th in league hitting with RISP. Then 27th in league in slugging percentage. If they can't get the big power bat add couple of guys who can manufacture runs, like Merrifield. Jays can't do neither

Bo getting hurt 1 day before the TDL when we're a cusp team is just so classic Jays lol.

People like saying "AL East is so tough" but seems like every other team has had their time in the sun. Feels like an excuse.

It’s hilarious they’re talking about bringing back Teoscar Hernandez after the horrendous Varsho for Gurriel and Moreno trade.

the people that need to be gone are Shatkins.
I just don't understand where Teo plays? Is he platooning with Springer? If not, you are taking Kirk or Janssen out of the lineup as the DH, and I don't know if that's a net positive.

Never should have let Siemien walk. Team hasn't been nearly as dangerous since we lost him.

It looked like Monoah was going to offset that with his meteoric rise to an ace, but we all know how that's gone.

They wouldn't be any better today if you undid the Varsho trade.
Teo has nearly double the RBI's, and you can argue Varsho saved a few runs defensively over Teo, I think they might have won a few more of these close games when you need a RBI late in games.

O's haven't made the WS in 40 years. I wouldn't exactly classify their past 10, 20, 30+ years as being better than the Jays.

Funny thing is the Jays have a better run differential than the Orioles (albeit only by 1). 1-13 against them and Boston is baffling to me. Considering Jays are 3-4 against both Yankees and TB. It’s ridiculous. Jays are a .624 team against everybody else.

This is Teo's best defensive season ever based on the metrics and it's still doing a disservice to Varsho by saying he's saved "a few" more runs defensively. His collective DRS is +10 over Teo and would be first in the league.

Yep, they probably would have won a few close games when they needed a run by having Teoscar or Gurriel instead of Varsho. They also would have lost a few close games by not making outs in the field. RBI's are based at least in part on circumstance, so that tells you basically nothing.

All of Gurriel, Teoscar, and Varsho have provided roughly equivalent value this year by fWAR. bWAR has Varsho as half a win above Gurriel and a full win above Teoscar.

Teoscar and Gurriel - slightly below average offensively, awful on the bases, surprisingly solid corner OF defensive numbers this year

Varsho - very bad offensively, excellent on the bases, elite defensively in the corner OF and also elite defensively in CF

I lived in Baltimore in the late 90s during the Delgado years and the Orioles fans would complain how they could never beat the Jays. Some fluke would always turn the game the Jay's way. It's the reverse of this season where you have Mountcastle going Ruthian every game, so it's a fluky year it just happens

Yup, look at the Jays vs Braves. The Jays have won 9 in a row against them. I'm sure they think we've had some voodoo going our way vs them
