Varsho should be slotted in the 8th or 9th slot in the batting order until he becomes more powerful(hitting the ball harder and farther to all fields )and more productive on offense. He’s struggling at the plate, doesn’t draw walks often but he’s got speed on the base paths, he can steal bases, can pinch hit, is good at small situational ball(hitting bunts) and he’s elite at baserunning. He’s very solid/smart defensively and has a good glove but his hitting is anemic. We need his gold glove caliber defense so he stays. The 5th slot in the batting lineup is traditionally reserved for a pure power hitter or a hybrid contact/power hitter that is consistently reliable and productive offensively. Your #5 hitter should be the third best hitter and the second most Powerful hitter on your team, he should be aggressive and disciplined at the plate, and he should be expected to get balls in play and drive in runs often.Kikuchi with another great game. But the bottom part of this lineup starting with Varsho in 5th are brutal.
Only the 6th time we have been shutout this season but yeah our bats are too hot and cold. Feast or famine, drought or deluge type offense.Typical. Offense is so useless and another gem start from our starters.
He’s been negative value so far. Might be the most putrid hitter I’ve seen and we have some real trash on our team.Starting to think adding another defensive infielder was probably not needed, even if we got DeJong essentially for free
Only positive from that game is I’m able to get a bit more Tears of the Kingdom in seeing as it was done so soon.
DeJong has been great defensively, but he's an offensive black hole. Keep him in the 9th spot but when Bo comes back, he'll be an occasional player at 2nd, assuming Schneider doesn't continue his great hitting.time for DeJong to make his mark.
nevermind Kirk pinch hitting for him
My guess is they don't trust Schneider defensively at 3B which is likely why Espinal started there, and Biggio likely got rewarded for his big game 1 of the series with another start at 2B. Despite the usual consistency of his bat against RHP, I would have started Schneider at 2B instead of Biggio yesterday because Biggio has -0.5 fWAR in 104 PA at 2B this season. Why did they take Schneider out of the lineup for this game?
As Steve Phillips pointed out. Jays can't be too good. 3rd wildcard plays the AL Central Winner in round 1. Then (most likely) the AL West winner
I know the Central gets goofed on, but Minnesota's rotation is one of the best in baseball. Playing for 3rd to face Lopez/Gray/Maeda/(Ober) in a short series is a bit dicey
I'd rather just go for home field
