I will be happy if they win but my god is this a nail bitter for them even if they manage to eek one out against the Mariners.

We were lucky to win one game this weekend with the offensive holes we had. Bichette 0 for 17 streak, Springer 2 double plays with 5 men on base, Kirk can’t put a ball in the air with a man on third and one out, etc. At least our pitching is still performing well (yesterday not withstanding).

Jays in Seattle is like Leafs in Vancouver. Should be beating these teams but somehow end up losing. Thank GOD we won today it was much needed. I feel happy for all the Westerners who made the trip down. I mentioned this on twitter but Varsho’s swing looks so fixable. He’s got a massive hole in it, he’s got a pretty straight cut to begin with. I’m no expert, but I would think lowering his hands to begin the swing would allow him to get to balls quicker. He seems to miss a ton of balls in the middle of the plate

Just seems Varsho is late on every fastball. And to me looking at his hits most are from his bat speed and his straight cut. Lower the hands, add in his already elite bat speed and he’s a doubles machine

Tbh very lucky. I know bounces are part of the game but Teo giving us that HR and a few botched plays by the Seattle D and we still couldn’t capitalize with fundamentals. Winning ugly today for sure.

Teo being an adventure in the OF isn’t uncharacteristic.

Plus there’s some obvious voodoo going on in that stadium. The two games before today felt more like surefire wins so I’ll take winning ugly over bullpens choking up leads.

Somehow the Jays have the 2nd best reliever fWAR of all AL playoff teams;

1. Baltimore: 5.3
2. Toronto: 2.9
3. Texas: 2.8
4. Houston: 2.8
5. Minnesota: 2.8
5. Tampa: 1.3

Boston (3.8) and Seattle (3.7) have better pens but they arent in playoff spots.

Starting pitching:

1. Minnesota: 11.4
2. Tampa: 9.7
3. Houston: 8.6
4. Toronto: 7.5
5. Texas: 7.1
6. Baltimore: 5.2

Seattle (9.3) and Cleveland (7.7) have better production but they arent in playoff spots.

Position Players:

1. Texas: 23.5
2. Tampa: 21.4
3. Toronto: 15.6
4. Houston: 13.1
5. Baltimore: 12.7
6. Minnesota: 12.0

Angels (17.1) have better position player production but they arent in a playoff spot.

So the Jays have one of the best lineups in the league and an average rotation and pen among AL playoff teams with Ryu and Green on the mend. If Manoah can give you 5-6 innings of 2-3 run ball, you are in a good position.

if the Jays can ever figure out how to hit with RISP and with the right addition or 2 at the deadline, they can go a long way.

That's been the story all year. I think it's safe to say this team is what it is, a good team but not a great team. I don't know if they have the assets to trade for any significant bats at the deadline.

Nobody's gonna trade for anyone on the roster that isn't Vladdy or Bo, and they're not trading these guys of course.

The good thing is we have a lot of recent examples of good teams making it to the WS over great teams;

2022: Phillies
2021: Braves
2019: Nationals

All were wild card teams and 2 won the WS.

You underestimate Tiedemann, Orelvis, Barriera, Barger and others. They can land you a top guy. But you don’t really need one. Under the radar pickups in: Rosario, Soler, and Pearce, were all MVPs. 2 of them WS MVPs and 1 was a championship league MVP. All were rentals at the deadline and probably similar bats the Jays are looking for.

The Jays aren’t trading off their roster for the most part. They are likely trading prospects to add to their roster like they did in 2021 and 2022. So no need to subtract from what we have.
