I really don't think the Jays qualify as "massively underperforming" if you look at the league holistically.
As a team no they are not. But the offense is.

You must look at the Jays in two part. Pitching outside of Manoah, Cimber, White, Pop and Bass has been terrific. Jays are 5th in RA. They allowed only 15 more runs than the 1st team. And those runs can be explained by guys that wont pitch in the playoffs. 3 of thsoe guys wont be pitching anymore soon. Green will make pitching even better if he comes back. And Ryu might help he can't be worse than Manoah has been.

But the offense is struggling. Jays are 16th in runs scored. 134 runs behind number 1. And this is despite a 20 runs game with ~10 of those scored against a position player. And they are not only struggling stats wise the eye test indicate they are definitely struggling to keep their head above the water offensively speaking. Maybe pitching will be enough to win a world series. But the struggle to hit with RISP will hurt in elimination games against good pitchers. Personally i don't think the solution offensively speaking is in the dugout. Team needs a better DH if it's going to keep this unproductive outfield intact.

Was your expectation that they would be close to flawless this year? The offense has underperformed expectations a bit and the pitching and defense have made up for it, but overall the team is doing approximately what most people expected they would do.

You could look at literally any team in the league and point to their weaknesses as evidence that it's been a disappointing season.

That's a weird argument, Not sure what is this flawless thing ...

I'd like the team to win a world series. That was the expection this winter. With this offense i'm not convince they can. That's about it. Yes the record is not bad but i think the offense will hurt them against top pitching in playoffs. When they'll need a run against "la crème de la crème" that offense wont cut it imo.

So should Sakic not have acquired Lehkonen for their cup run because the team record was good and nobody is perfect? He should have ignored his team's lack of depth on the wing and stand pat?

If they make the playoffs anything can happen. The talent is there to win a WS.

I never said anything about not doing anything at the deadline... I've been clear that I think they really need to add a platoon OF and possibly some pitching upgrades.

I shouldn't have responded specifically to you, though... sorry about that. It was meant as a response to a series of complaints people have had the last day or two. I've mentioned this before - and, again, it's not a direct response to anything you've posted - I think it's hilarious that we spent the better part of the last decade (back to the 2015-2016 teams, where we heard this all the time) hearing how pitching and defense win in the playoffs and that they wouldn't win if they were trying to slug their way to a championship. Now that the team is built more around strong pitching and fantastic defense, having an average offense just isn't good enough.

For a lot of Jays fans, apparently the best way to win a championship will always be the opposite of whatever the Jays are doing.

I don't get why Espinal is ducking out of the way there. Make the catcher throw around you.

Jays’ offence in a nutshell…of the 19 batters up to the end of the 4th 10 have reached base…but the score is 1-0. They’re going to ruin another terrific pitching performance by a Blue Jays pitcher.

god damn this offense. how many walks by snell they wasted. two more runners nobody out in the 5th, zero runs.

Don't understand the thought process of some these batters. KK and now Chapman, sitting on deck, watching the pitcher throw nothing but balls and then you go up and hack at the first pitch which is not near the zone? 0-1 completely changes the AB and gives Snell confidence and control

Just brutal swing decisions

I know it's a silly thing to be continuously annoyed by, but the ump really needs to tell the on-deck Padre hitter to get the f*** back to the circle. He's practically standing behind home plate. That's not how this works.
