Vladdy, Kirk, Manoah...these guys are either not getting good advice or they are vehemently choosing to ignore said advice. My money's on the latter.
Honest to god who knows, but with the mainstream media & social media basically promoting obesity as "beautiful", who knows if this kind of mind virus infected the "high performance department".

Not saying bigger people cannot be beautiful, it's just that if your purpose in life is to be a professional athlete, you cannot make the argument that getting in shape would be a detriment to your performance.

I guess we’ll never know now but I wonder if they could’ve gotten Carroll if they had offered up Kirk.

I would leave vladdy out of that comment. he is clearly trimmer and in better shape this season than he was earlier in his career. even when he runs the bases, he looks quick for a guy his size.

I hope you're wrong, but at least it saved the Jays a massive contract mistake, had this happened a couple years later.

He has zero leverage now.

This is why I’m not against talking players year to year. Manoah and Vladdy are prime examples. Vladdy would have got $300M+ and Manoah $100M+ when people were clamouring for extensions.

As of now, only Bo is the only one showing his worth.

In baseball you get 6-7 years of control depending on service time. No need to buy out of free agent years unless the team gets a big discount like Acuna.

Well, at least the scoreboard is very favourable.

Rays and Orioles lost. Yanks, Sox, Astros, and Mariners are losing

All lost. Great night to not lose ground but not a great night as you could have made up ground.

Great, one loss and now it’s Vladdy sucks and fat. Kirk sucks and he is fat. Manoah is trash and is fat.
i mean they ARE all fat.

But what people forget about vladdy is that he's still younger than rutschman. Like he's only 24 lol. We'd all have liked him to continue on as he did two years ago but he's going to be a beast day in day out.

Manoah its between the ears and he does need to lose weight. Idgaf what anyone says including him. The dude has been trash with a pitch clock. That's not the only thing ailing him but I bet it'd do him a world of good if he got fitter.

Kirk.....I love captain kirk but god damn has he been poor this seaosn.

Vlad is carrying a little bit of fat but contrary to Kirk and Manoah he is fit. He can run. He would benefit losing a few lbs but at least you can see he is training. Some people have a harder time to keep their weight. Not sure i can say the same about the other two specially Kirk. The guy looks totally out of shape he can barely moves his *** around.

The criticisms about Kirk lack of fitness have been around for a while nothing to do with them losing the last game. It is a valid criticism btw he is skilled and basically throwing his career away if he doesn't change something.

Someone on Overdrive, I think Scott Mitchell, said that Manoah was over 300lb when he reported to spring training. That extra weight is what is screwing up his mechanics, his arm drags behind him as he has to work harder to move his lower body in his motion. Not to mention the pitch clock isn't letting him take a breath anymore.

That's exactly it.

Look one cannot deny that these guys are not in ideal shape. And yes not everyone can shed weight and get buff. But let's not act as if manoah and kirk at least can't shed another 15 lbs and it wouldn't help them lol.

What about Bartolo Colon and his questionable surgery and all his weight he carried around. He was solid. Pitcher and weight.
So because one fat guy had success, others should expect to be successful too?

Manoah knew the pitch clock was coming, the pace on the mound was going to require more effort.

In the prior year and a half of pitching for the Jays, he has been very slow working on the mound, stepping off many times, taking strolls around the mound between batters far longer than what the pitch clock requires this season.

He is visibly struggling with the pace of play, and his pitching suffers.

I truly don't know what they did in florida with him. Clearly you can't fix condidtioning in a calendar month.

You can even look at it like each individual pitch is like doing a rep and the longer rest time in between each will increase power/recovery upside.

He was the slowest pitcher on the starting staff last season in terms of time taken between pitch thrown.

Yep. some call pitchers like that "human rain delay". that always cracked me up.

As someone who has gained weight I can tell you even just golfing I can feel my range and swing angle are worse for it. When your whole job is throwing a ball you need to go whatever you can to help that rotation not hurt it. If he did come in that overweight that is absolutely the issue. That makes him morbidly obese. They need to get him on a weight management program which I'm sure they have already. Leaving him in the minors for the balance of the year would also help send the message.

That's what's known as the exception not the rule. Colon also pitched forever which most pitchers don't do.

Rays continue their free fall and are now tied with the Orioles in the standings heading into their 4-game series.

Hoping the Jays take 4 of their next 5 here to gain another 1.5-2+ games on one of those two
