Lol no shot they're going 54-34 rest of the way.
Yep 92 required a lot going right and was always going to be tough.
88 is still going to be hard, but they’ll probably have a little run at some point and win 10 of 12.

We are not changing managers. Let's get that out of the way. We are going to try and make the playoffs... We will have a starter and at least one new bullpen piece in July. Less certain on a trade for a bat.. I'd say there will be a platoon move of sorts... Look at what Steve Pierce did for the Sox in 18.

Vladdy hasn't had an extra base hit in 12 games, and he has 3 extra base hits in all of June.

It's June 19th.

He's had one home run off a real pitcher in 6 weeks.

He has 9 homers all year, 8 real ones.

I don't care that he's hitting singles. singles are garbage for a player of his supposed caliber.

Vladdy is overweight. Same with Kirk and Manoah.

I’m shocked and stunned that players with a less than ideal BMI are underperforming and lack endurance.

Playoffs?!? Lol.

This team is nowhere near contending for the playoffs let alone contend for a World Series.

their bullpen is awful and they have no power in the lineup.

both problems are entirely fixable but the current management team seems more interested in virtue signaling and body acceptance than they are in actually winning anything. To be honest I think half the fans in Toronto feel the same way.

it’s a shame because the blue jays are supposed to be Canada’s team but it’s clear their priorities are more in line with current corporate culture where putting a winner on the field just isn’t a top priority.

What does this team need most?
Power bat?
New coach?
Vladdy and Monoah having off-seasons hasn't helped. Belt's injury hasn't helped. Kirk seems to have lost his power. Espinal's season has been sub-par....

At what point do we lay the blame on the players not performing? Manoah went from a Cy Young finalist to Rookie ball while our MVP candidate is on pace for what, about 20 HR? When your 2 best players on paper aren't performing you are obviously not going to win a lot of games.

It's obviously fair to place blame on the players. At the end of the day they were projected to be much better than what they currently are. They're mid pack in run scoring and they're pitching isn't in the upper echelon (like the Astros, Padres, Twins, Yanks) to withstand those struggles. They haven't been quite as bad or unlucky as the Mets, Padres, and Twins, but they're effectively in that Astros/Dodgers tier of underperformers. I also think the performance of the Rays greatly exacerbates this as the Jays don't have the luxury of being sub 10 games back of a division lead like in other divisions.

On the flip side, I also think this whole sky is falling attitude going on around here is a touch pedantic. They're currently a game back of WC3 and two games back of WC2, which, let's be honest, we'd rather have WC3.

I can't blame anyone for being low on the Jays right now. They just flat out uncompetitive far too often. They've lost by 5+ in ~15% of their games (11% last year, 9% in 2021) and that's probably a complimentary number with how many useless 9th inning rallies they've had.

Combine that with the fact that they are currently slashing .247/.314/.351 in close/late...its frustrating.

e: maybe to expand on the last point there - they are below league average in all the high leverage splits (high leverage, 2 outs/risp, close/late etc) and then above average in the less meaningful ones (>4 run games, low leverage etc). So I think its fair when people wave off some of the macro stats (6th in wRC+ etc) because its not a fair reflection of what the offense is doing to win games.

Now, is that clusterluck related and something that will come around over the course of the season? Perhaps. But its still a legitimate concern at this point.

Hitting coach is first on the list I would say. Offense has been underperforming.

Schneider had a great record when he took over. Castillo had one of the best pitching performances in game 1. Schneider screwed up in game two but that’s one game. I really don’t think he’s the issue.

It’s the bats and lack of pitching depth that’s killing the team now. Neither are his fault.

For me personally that sample size of a few good weeks and then getting swept by Seattle did not scream automatic 3 year extension and he is our guy. I could have maybe even wrapped my mind around 2 years if management thought he was perfect fit yet after the season and better then any other candidate. With that said I also don't just blame him. I think you could point at anyone as a problem.

At the rate he's been performing in the past 6 weeks he might be lucky to finish with 15. Maybe more if a position player pitches to him :D
