He was scorching at the bottom of the order, he moved straight up to leadoff when Springer was struggling, and yet he struggled there too (83 wRC+). A couple of games in Colorado isn't going to change the fact that he's not a middle of the order bat and should be played lower in the lineup.

He had a brief slump at the start of August and then a red-hot streak and was still at a 116 WRC+ on August 15.

If Chapman/Bichette were healthy he'd be batting 6th at best. Right now the lineup is very thin.

The 10-game run between August 16-27 where he went 5-42 is what dropped his numbers.

Vlad is such an immature turd. Doesn’t run things out, doesn’t believe in adjustments or listening to coaches, his antics in the dugout etc. someone should smack him up the head and tell him to get his shit together. He does realize that we’re scraping just to get into the playoffs? Grow up

The Nats series didn’t increase his numbers either. So you’re really just pointing to sprinkles of like 8 games over the last 35 days as examples of him still being a good hitter while ignoring the majority of time spent not being a good hitter.

And it’s not like he’s been consistently good over the entire year. Prior to his hot July he was really just hanging onto a starting spot because Biggio and Espinal weren’t good.

Vladdy has 1.2 FWAR this year. Astonishingly mediocre.

Davis Schneider, who has played 19 games, has 1.8.

Literally every hitter in MLB is like this. Guys have ups and downs. He was at a 116 OPS+ on August 15 and then had a bad 10-game segment, then has rebounded.

He went to the ASG based on his performance before July. He's a veteran multi-time AS having an overall good season. Managers don't just drop these guys from the lineup based on a couple bad weeks.

He shouldn't be hitting cleanup right now, but neither should any of Biggio/Espinal/Clement/Varsho/Heinemann.

I wouldn’t say every good or all-star level player has two months over 100 wRC+ and the rest below. When Chapman was in a rut, he was dropped down the lineup. All of the guys below Merrifield have been performing better, so they should move up ahead of him.

Other than some late game hits last night that made the score inflated this offence has been putrid against the worst team in the league for 2 1/2 games of this series
 
Only positive to take right now is that Oakland is more likely to puke all over themselves and hand Toronto the win than Toronto is to come back with skill and clutch hitting.
