You keep bringing up Candelario as if he was some sort of legitimate option here.
Candelario can basically only play 3B/DH (and maybe a tiny bit of first) and while he's a switch-hitter he's primarily a LH bat when you look at his platoon splits. And no matter how frustrated you are with Matt Chapman's August, there is a 0% chance they were replacing him at 3B or taking his glove out of the lineup - guy was on pace for a 6-7 WAR season on August 1. Which basically means you're acquiring a DH to play primarily against RHP ... and all that does is take away ABs from Brandon Belt who has been an even better hitter than Candelario this year.
As others have said, there was basically nothing available in terms of quality bats that would actually fit into this team's lineup in any way that would have made a meaningful difference.
