Going for age this year as well. An awful lot of 19yo's on this roster. You'd probably have to ask the people who picked the team why he made it. It does seem that Canada made a conscious decision to go for size in its depth players.

That's assuming Bedard and Fantilli are in the NHL and you never know - at this time, last year, people assumed Wright would NOT be at the WJR's.Team Canada will have zero returnee forwards next year
I can't imagine they chose the kid just because his brother got hurt - H.C. must feel he brings something to the table that others do not.Lets be honest, If Colton Dach's brother wasn't Kirby would he have even been drafted in the 2nd round let alone in consideration for this team?
By the way , Sam Bankman Fried just got arrested !! This is another shocker !!![]()
^^ Every year, people feel like this way. ^^I think that Canada kinda dropped the ball here a bit. I mean I am not fully against any of the picks but I feel like they could have picked more skill for the team.
I understand the thought process of picking the best all round team in hockey. The thing is that thought process works better in a best of 7 series where defined depth players who have depth roles come more into play. In tournament play it is win and you move on or lose and you are eliminated. I’d rather take the most skilled team that I can into that type of tournament. I don’t want to just rely on the top two lines for scoring and then whatever the third and fourth line provide is a bonus. I want to be able for Canada to play their third and fourth lines and have them big scoring threats still. Plus I with that another one or two 18 year old would have made the team to be returning players for next year.
Canada / Switzerland on December 19th in Moncton among some others.Any exhibition games televised?
He didn’t make the team? And was even the easier cut out of the goaltenders.lol, he was a lock from the start.
Thought he was talking about Brennan OthmannHe didn’t make the team? And was even the easier cut out of the goaltenders.
I think that most would agree with the approach you're talking about. As it stands right now Canada looks like a team planning to outscore the opposition with its top two lines and wear them out with the other two. Ideally they would have three top scoring lines when depth allows, this being one of those years. As for returnees, Korchinski looks like the only realistic returnee to a 2024 team that will very likely be a fair bit weaker than this one. Hopefully Canada takes advantage of what looks like a very favourable opportunity this tournament.I think that Canada kinda dropped the ball here a bit. Yeah every year it is edging closer and closer to the camp being a waste of time. They know 99% of what they want and the chances of 2 scrimmage games changing what they already want is extremely low.Overall, I'm happy with the roster but I have a few minor gripes like some others have raised. I think the biggest issue I have is how rigid HC brass seems to be before camp has even started.
I'm not surprised by it given past history, but it seems pointless to me to bring guys in from all over North America when they have no hope of making the roster, only to cut them in a highly publicized setting. For example, I don't think there was anything Dumais, Greene or Rousseau could've done at camp to make the team since they were excellent at camp. Conversely, its clear they had guys like Dach, Dean and Schaefer locked in, regardless of their performance, as they were invisible in the U-sports games. Bankier might be the only exception.
Hopefully you learned just how dumb it is to assert your opinions as facts moving forward. I bet you didn't though.I cannot beleive beck got cut !!! This is a travesty!!! It's outrageous, egregious, preposterous!
Honestly I thought beck was a lock as he is lighting the league this year. Sound defensive player.
I dont agree with building a team using a salary cap method.
You did a nice job. This was my prediction last week:
Othmann-Wright-Guenther
Roy-Stankoven-Bedard
Bolduc-Fantilli-Ostapchuk
Kidney-Dean-Gaucher
Beck
Korchinski-Allan
Zellweger-Matier
Lambos-Del Mastro
Nause
I think now that it's official, we see this:
Othmann-Wright-Guenther
Roy-Stankoven-Bedard
Dean-Fantilli-Ostapchuk
Schaefer-Gaucher-Bankier
Dach
Del Mastro-Clarke
Zellwegger-Matier
Korchinski-Allan
Hinds
Gaudreau/Milic
Pecno's a good guy.Hopefully you learned just how dumb it is to assert your opinions as facts moving forward. I bet you didn't though.
Dont you dare jinx us. I'm still in recovery.I could get used to the WJR's being played TWICE a year.
I'm just glad we don't have to worry about a replay of last Christmas.

Yet Lambos(thought to be a sure thing, or very close to it) was cut, and Bankier(the ultimate dark horse, who no one thought had a chance) made it.Yeah every year it is edging closer and closer to the camp being a waste of time. In Mateychuk's case, they already had Clarke, Korchinski, and Zellwegger as offensively focused defenseman, so there's that. Hockey Canada is weird though. Once you play for them at some level before the U20, they keep their eyes on you moving forward.Only Mateychuk and Dumais are egregious omissions (besides Savioe obviously). Still can't believe Mateychuk wasn't invited, let alone a lock in the top-4.
