I cannot beleive beck got cut !!! This is a travesty!!! It's outrageous, egregious, preposterous!

Honestly I thought beck was a lock as he is lighting the league this year. Sound defensive player.

I dont agree with building a team using a salary cap method.

Has anyone been dunking on the "Beck is a lock" prediction in this thread or do I misunderstand the churlishness of these boards? ;)

Good team. Surprised at the goaltending picks, but I'm fine seeing Canada win 10-8 if necessary.
Yes I’m as much surprised as you or anyone else on this board :)

It's outrageous, egregious, preposterous!

By the way , Sam bankman fried just got arrested !! This is another shocker !! :)

Wheeler posted his thoughts from the camp:

Wheeler Team Canada Notebook

Nothing mind blowing. He says that Kidney's injury isn't that serious, just day to day. Seems to praise Dumais, Greene, and Nause the most among the cuts. Sounds like Bolduc made some smart plays but needed to actually produce. Lambos was bad in the first game. Says that Dach was very quiet at the camp and was the most surprising player to make the team. Says that Allan was the worst defenceman at the camp. Implies that Rousseau is the goaltender to be brought in should there be an emergency.

How bad was Allen ? And why did he make the team ?

You'd probably have to ask the people who picked the team why he made it. It does seem that Canada made a conscious decision to go for size in its depth players.

Then this is a terrible decision in these times. Nhl getting smaller and faster. No more goons

Wheeler is just a tad soft and has no clue how to identify talent in players who actually play defense so nothing he says I take seriously. Allan is the exact player you need to babysit Korchinski

Gaudreau looks promising... yikes.

G Benjamin Gaudreau (San Jose Sharks): Gaudreau was leaking in practices big time, with his glove hand repeatedly exposed in drills and then again in his game. He made some big pad saves, moved and tracked well to compensate though, and finished stopping 17 of 19 shots (though he was also helped by a crossbar) for an .895 save percentage.

D Nolan Allan (Chicago Blackhawks): I was underwhelmed by Allan. He skated over a couple pucks and his play breaking out of his own zone was generally sloppy. He played his physical brand and delivered a couple of big hits but he was the least impressive defenceman in camp for me. They clearly like him as a foil to some of their three offensively-gifted guys in Zellweger, Clarke and Korchinski.

Not much left in terms of single tickets in Halifax, even for non-Canada games. For example, already not so far from a sellout for Germany-Austria on December 30. Good to see. Not sure if I'll make it there but if I do it'll be secondary market apparently.

He has struggled to find any sort of consistency in Sarnia this year. He was lights out last year with a crap team in front of him. Now this year, it’s multiple bad goals a game for the most part, and he has a much improved team in front of him. If he plays like he has been in Sarnia this year….yikes is right.

That being said. He was a #7 overall, NHL 3rd round pick and a u-18 gold medalist. Tough things to ignore. He clearly has the skill set. He just hasn’t been able to put it together this season yet.

That's why Canada has been struggling in front of the net at the WJC in recent years. They tend to go with household names rather than goalies who are actually showing results in league play.

Canada has had good goaltending for several years now. Probably back to 2016, though you could argue about Hart in 2017 I guess.

My biggest omissions would be
F: M. Savoie, Dumais, Bolduc, L'Heureux, Firkus, F.Pinelli, Greene, Benson, Cristall
D: Mateychuk, Ceulemans, Luneau, Lambos, C.Kyrou

Definitely could have brought a more talented team but should still be favourites along with the Americans imo. The top 6 along with Zellweger and Clarke should take this team a long way.

I am really surprised that Lambos and Dumais did not make the team. However, I give the benefit of the doubt to Hockey Canada. Maybe they thought other players were better fits on this team.
