....well this thread sure took a hard turn into Crazy Town.

Japan has already proven that they have a solid group of top-end talent who can definitely thrive in MLB. But to equate the two entire leagues, based on a pre-season, single elimination tournament (as fun as it was) is a stretch.

Nah, man. We need to live in absolutes. And anyone who doesn't share our absolutes is, by definition, wrong. And outdated. Don't forget it's because they're old.

It shouldn’t be surprising Japan won. They brought all their best players including SP. Imagine this US team with Burnes, Verlander, Scherzer, McClanahan, Cole, Nola, Strider, deGrom, Webb, Musgrove, Woodruff, Bieber, Wheeler, Cease or even just three of them?

Psshaw. Those guys wouldn't even crack a last place NPB roster.

We've been scolded and told we're too xenophobic, aged and/or stupid. We've been put in the corner in time out. Most of us aren't actually allowed to talk about baseball anymore. You weren't here, so you are probably allowed to say something. Just make sure it doesn't suggest MLB is a better league than NPB. But all early 1980s Montreal Expos references as empirical evidence are warmly embraced.

Did you know that because he was twice the All-Star Game MVP, Gary Carter is the greatest catcher in the history of MLB? I mean, he's no Atsuya Furuta, but neither was Yogi Berra (if he'd only played in a better era, superior league, and without the expansion dilution of talent spread between 32 teams...).

I wish MLB/baseball world would build on this. I didn't take notice of this tournament, because I didn't think it was more than a friendly tournament of second rate players, but after hearing how proud all these guys are playing for their country and winning the WBC would be considered similarly as good as the world series and seeing how the last games played out, I want them to finally make a serious tournament with the best players for each country competing ( I am not even sure Germany could field a full team of 26 players). Hockey should follow suit.

Can't MLB start sooner and take a 2-3 week break during the summer right around the ASB?

The Red Sox decision to showcase the 2023 team in primetime on NESN to drum up interest for Opening Day has backfired badly.

Opening Day is not sold out yet and it is in 8 days.

After that loss to Japan, I never want to hear any MLB luddite utter again that NPB is AAAA, a feeder league, or, even more insultingly, a minor league ever again. That Japan squad only had 4 MLB players on it and went undefeated as well as holding an all MLB based Team USA to two runs. All of which was done without Tomoya Mori, Yuki Yanagita, Seiya Suzuki, Hayato Sakamoto, Ryoji Kuribayashi, Kaima Taira, Koji Chikamoto, and Kodai Senga on their roster. NPB is on the level of MLB. Time to put respect on that league's name.

BAWAHAHAHA

4 currently do. Could've been six had Suzuki not gotten hurt and Senga joined the team. And by the next cycle, it will probably be more than double digits with Murakami, Sasaki, Yamamoto, Okamoto, and such being up on the posting system.

All these guys are coming to the inferior MLB. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!
