Not like top 5 picks are the only players that develop into superstars but looking at it another way, We already have Dach and Slaf who are top 3 picks and a bunch of promising 1st round prospects (Mesar, Guhle) and at least 5 more 1st round picks in the next 3 drafts.

I’m not even mentioning all the other prospects we have in the system right now that everyone knows

I feel some in our fan herd are too afraid to be happy with our prospects due to past failures. This latest group is very solid. It's got both quality and quantity and very good development resumes.

Late 80s team was huge.

Smith, McPhee, Lemieux, Nilan, Skrudland, Corson, Richer, Gainey, Momesso & Walter upfront.

Robinson, Chelios, Green, Ludwig & Lalor on D. That team would grind other teams to dust.
Good point but since then, we’ve regularly been rostering smallish teams and that was especially disadvantageous during those years where being small was a detriment.

We have a better balance now but you still need to optimize that asset mix since the game’s physicality always means there will be opposition players who will take liberties.

MSL doesn't have the right people. We have 0 offensive dmen. We have two offensive forwards in Suzuki and Caufield. The rest of our forwards are supporting cast and not very good at it outside of Monahan. There's nothing MSL can do for this PP it will be bottom 5.
Monahan, Dach, Drouin, Hoffman
They should split Suzuki and Caufield IMO.

The best PP's in the league have two one-timer options on both sides.

I know Hoffman sucks but they should probably try it on the PP.

Cole on the left side ready for a one-timer and Hoffman on the right side also ready for a one-timer.

Cole is an underrated passer, if they cheat on him he should be able to find Hoffman on the other side with a cross-ice pass when everybody is expecting a shot from him.

It's not working with Suzuki because he's also a right-hand shot.
Isn't this stuff taught in Junior?

I’m born in 96 so I didn’t saw them

Robinson was a beast. His +/- will never be touched.

Early 90 was not too bad. LeClair was a monster. Kids can't comprehend how much of a monster he was. Think Anderson but on steroid. Muller was not the tallest one but he had a presence on the ice. He was tough. Guys like Desjardins and Damphousse had no trouble facing physical teams. Both Damphousse and Schneider were unpredictable. They both could cross check you right in the face out of nowhere if they were not happy. Then there was Odelein and Ewen ... Not a big team overall but a team able to face physical teams and answer.

People always say +/- is useless but there's not many tourist on that list ;)

The problem with + / - is somehow some people think it's a defensive stats while it's a differential stats. What do you bring offensively versus what do you bring defensively. Obviously it's going to be the victim of small sample size and who do you play with like any stats but over a long period of time it's a relatively good indicator of how dominant a player was at 5 on 5.

+/- always have to be taken with a grain of salt but in Robinson's case, it's legit. That much far ahead of guys below him too.

I think the overall sample is where +/- comes in for value. Can't be just one season, has to be a few seasons to get a better sample. Ryan Graves was +40 one year and then +15 the year after. First season with the Devils, he was -9.

Drouin is a 40 points player who has trouble scoring 20 goals. Hoffman will soon be 33 and has not done much the last 2 seasons. Some players are done at 33 and it looks like it is the case with him. Dach has not proven anything offensively yet.

With Kessel in the news, we can see his dip in production each year past 30. Sometimes 32 to 33 can be a huge drop for a forward. I don’t think we‘ve gauged yet how much in the case of Hoffman and Dadonov.

It is so sickening to see at least 3 players on a major run to become franchise players, and knowing this team won't finish bottom 3 after getting the 1st overall in a weak ass year.

Digusting.
