Trading vets will be key. Monahan and one of Eddy or Savard, preferably Savard. Hughes will wait for the market to heat up as we approach the March 3rd deadline. But the sooner he can move them the better.

I don't see Anderson's contract moving midseason. Whether one likes him or not, he's a net positive and moving him would help the chances of a top 5 pick.

I don't think trading vets will be key, most of the vets suck so them being on the team helps the tank.

We've had injuries and there is no way our bottom 6 players go all year with literally no production and just can't see us falling below the current worst 6 teams in the league, especially with the positive culture around the team....but listen, I hope you are right, I'm dying for a top 4 pick...

We're getting close. Vancouver & Nashville should pass us soon, if not tonight getting us to 7th place.

The bottom 3 of Anaheim, Chicago & CBJ will be tough to catch, but a 4-5 place finish is not impossible.

Lots of season left.

Russian players will still come over.

We've done well with players that have fallen (Caufield, Mailloux, Hutson). Let's keep taking advantage of these types of situations.
Mailloux and hutson have not played one pro game, let alone one NHL game. LOL.

Well, things didn't go our way the rest of the night.

Nashville loses 3-1 to Avs. Still 2 pts back, and with 2 games in hand.

Arizona lost 5-2 to Buffalo. They're 6 pts back with 2 games in hand. Montreal plays them Monday.

Winnipeg is beating Canucks 4-0 in 3rd period. Vancouver will remain 1 point back with 1 game in hand.

Flyers lost to NYR and remain 3 pts back.

Sharks are beating Kings 2-1 late in 2nd period. If they can hold on, they'll move to within 3 pts of Montreal.

Bottom 3 teams aren't worth talking about.

EDIT:

SJS lead lasted exactly 50 seconds. It's 2-2 late in 2nd.

5-0 for Winnipeg now, so Vancouver is done.

I don't think trading vets will be key, most of the vets suck so them being on the team helps the tank.

there are 6 vets that don't suck:

Monahan, Anderson, Dvorak, Savard, Edmundson, Matheson.

The more of those that are traded, the better our chances of getting into the top 5. It is possible to be beat out by Philly, Vancouver, and Nashville, plus one of San Jose or Arizon. And that would leave us 5th worst. Getting beat out by both San Jose and Arizona, leaves us 4th worst, and thus pre-lottery in line for one of Bedard, Fantelli, Carlsson, or Mishkov.

HYPOTHETICALLY, let’s say we get 1st and 3rd like the previous poster said, would you do:

(Assuming We pick Bedard with #1)

1) 3rd overall pick to NJ for Simon Nemec and NJ 1st round pick 2023 (NJ selects Mitchkov)

Or

2) 3rd overall pick to DET for Simon Edvinsson and DET 1st round pick 2023 (Detroit drafts a centre either Fantilli or Carlsson)

Then, take FLA’s 1st (around 16th) with either NJ or Detroits 1st to move back into top 10. Obviously the Detroit and NJ picks will have different value so the trade may need some extra picks around it.

We would come out with Bedard, pick #9 or 10, one of Edvinsson/Nemec

Why the f*** would we do that? We trade Monahan and get a late first and the D we'll draft will probably be just as good or even better than Nemec.

You draft Bedard and Carlsson, or Fantili and Michkov.

It's one of the best draft in ages, you keep the damn picks

Like the Habs, they had an easier first 30 games than the rest of their schedule. They're cracking up and some people think the Habs won't.
Panthers have shown cracks since the season started and have a lot less deadwood to carry around.

Habs were a lot more constant until the injuries started to pill up and Allen started to be overplayed. It's hilarious that nobody in the Habs organization seems aware that Allen has been a back-up since 2018 and can't really play more than 40-45 games a season without his performance crashing. He's already half way his quota.
