Kind of the point

I am glad that maybe the farm system is better.

Meanwhile one of the most revenue generating teams of money could of concentrated on the Major League roster at the same time
They did? The Red Sox are like a top 5 team in the AL right now. It's just that the other 4 are also in the East. That's certainly not Bloom's fault!

There is what he hope for and then there is reality.

If they can maybe do it? Good. But I am not going to place any bets.

I like Dombroski’s pick of Bello though.

A good pitcher

The reality is that the Red Sox are a strong team this year. We've got a lot of young guys learning on the job and we're still winning more than we lose. It's not gonna take long before we're fighting for the division. We're just a little unseasoned for it to be reasonable to expect the team to close the deal this year.

Ultimately, either the major league team or the farm system has to take priority at any given point in time.

And if you view a robust, productive farm system as the key to building a sustainable winner, then it makes sense to make that the priority... at least for now.

While we're thanking Dombrowski, can I thank him for trading Bello for Mike Clevinger in an alternate timeline? (We all know he would 100% have done that)

Seriously lmao. The only reason we have Bello and Casas is because DD was canned before they developed enough for him to deal them.

And I refuse to give GM’s much credit for IFA signings. It’s an insult to the guys actually responsible for finding these players.

Hell baby
Dombrowski was usually pretty good about knowing who to trade, the problem is there was zero org depth and not a ton of financial flexibility due to some of the contracts he gave out

So as Mike said- he did what he was brought here to do and I can’t fault him for that. That 2018 team is one of the best ever. But he did create a sticky situation that he probably would have only made worse had he been kept on.

So my post is silly because of something that might of happened in an alternate universe. Just lovely.

I was looking around for a list of DD's trade while in Boston. One of the more complete lists I looked at didn't really have any earth shatter guys he traded away.

Nah.

Dave Dombrowski did what he was hired to do, and he did it well.

I don't believe for a second that he was the right guy to fix his own mess moving forward, though.
Dealer Dave is the reason we won a trophy in 2018. Also probably the reason we didn't win one in 19, 20, 21, and 22. When you gut the farm system it takes years to organically regrow that talent stream.

That said, without drastic changes we don't win in 18 and probably still don't win in 19-23 so Dumbo sstill probably put us ahead of where we woulda been. but you knew going in what he was gonna do and why so no one has any excuse to be sour about it.

This is correct.

He identified the prospects to keep, and generally did a good job selling high on others.

Moncada was probably the best prospect he traded away, and he's been...not great for 4 years now.

Kopech has been okay as well, but generally Dombrowski did a good job trading away pieces that turned into nothing.

Yep, as much as Dombrowski "gutted" the farm with trades, none of those prospects turned into anything, and Kopech is the only one who I'd even say that the team could use at the moment - but even then the Sale trade was worth it.

The problem wasn't that Dombrowski traded away all their top prospects, it was that he always paid retail sticker price in every trade.

It's not hard to sign guys or trade for them when you do that. To his credit he seemed to do a good job identifying which prospects to move (who has really come back to haunt them?), but both things can be true.

For sure.

He did what the hired him to do, and it was time to move on when they did.

They needed a reset, and he sure as hell was not the person to do that
