It just seems too risky.

They finally have the farm system looking good and they’d need to give up some real quality prospects…..probably Bello as well for the chance that the guy wants to stay here.

Who knows?

Maybe he wants to sign somewhere specific and it would be a fools errand to bring him here for 2-3 months.

Nah, just sign him 3 months later. He needs an extension if I’m trading for him mid-season and I can’t remember the last time that happened in baseball (a trade in July immediately followed by a long term deal)

Honestly the more I think about it the more I think I’d rather give Soto $35-40 mill than Ohtani $60 mill. Would be less risky. Shohei’s already had some arm problems, plus he’s probably playing DH when he’s not pitching and they already have like 4 guys who would be best at DH next year. Soto isn’t a free agent until 2025 but we could stick him in LF and have our Manny 2.0 for a decade

Give me Soto + the pitcher. People have forgotten about his free agency in 2025 because Ohtani has all the hype but Soto is gonna be a free agent at 26 and he’s always been prodigious at the plate. Has demonstrated to be a big game player with his monster WS against the Astros. I think that’s my guy. Soto-Duran-Verdugo with Yoshida at DH is a lot of fun. Just need the bench OF’s to be RHH
