I recently did a deep dive here on Boggs that surprised me with just how amazing he was for a few seasons before being really good for many. His RBI numbers are also deflated because he led off, so a lot of his at bats came with no one on.
But personally he's been dead to me since he rode that f***ing horse in Yankee Stadium after winning the World Series. It's been lost to time but it was a clear shot at the Sox because Mo Vaughn had done the same thing the year before when they clinched a playoff spot.
Never would have retired his number. f***ing hate that guy.
Wow - love it
October 26, 1996 I was in Key West for Fantasy fest (was actually there all week staying with our married friends beachfront hime in Marathon Key). We drove to key west for 3-4 days of serious partying
There was 5-7 of us so we got a great room and just did the Key West bars and drinking
It was basically 25+ years ago and I can’t do it Justice how crazy and insane it was - it was somewhat in the neighborhood of that Vegas movie with Bradley Cooper. If Public nudity, body painting and ordering from bartenders who have exotic snakes hanging off them this was your place
We all kind of split up and I remember walking into this patio like a house/bar and see two of my buddies sitting their with a bunch of guys smoking cigars like the ones Kramer had in Seinfeld (the Bubble Boy) watching the Yankees - Braves World Series
I asked is the game over and one just said ‘yah we’re just watching Boggs ride a horse’
I stood there and looked and yup he’s on a horse - I hated him ever since.
Although I wasn’t at Fenway for 1999 ASG when Clemens still active wore the Yankees cap out for All Century Team/ dead to me as well
Clemens did nof need to wear a hat many others didn’t
