maybe because the reason they're flawed is because they jettisoned homegrown stars (Betts, Bogaerts) like they were the Rays despite having the owners with the deepest pockets in the league?

Sorry not sorry, there is no excuse for the Red Sox to be a flawed club for multiple years, or to finish last 5x in 10 years. There is a refusal to spend money on stars and the directive clearly is "do enough to keep asses in the seats on the cheap and if we happen to win it's gravy"

The frustration is watching the Red Sox become just a line on a corporation's accounting ledger
Lucky for you, Vegas will have a new team to cheer for soon.

I don't think its spin at all. I'm not a Sox fan, but to be honest, I really don't understand some of the blatant negativity on this board. They are a decent, but flawed, ball club and they're competitive. If that's not good enough for some people, then I really don't know what to say..

I do think their pitching, on the whole, is atrocious however. They live and die with their offense. If their bats hold up, they are competitive, but they've gotta score 5-6 runs a game to be in it on most nights. That offensive lineup is something you can work with, but they need some serious help in their starting rotation, or that bullpen is gonna break down eventually. The cracks are already starting to show.

The blatant negativity is from some Sox followers who hate ownership and hate Bloom so they want failure hoping it’ll lead to change.

The same people don’t say boo when the team is doing well because they don’t want success.

I don’t see it that way. I think they just want a payroll and talent level befitting of a big market team. They want the Sox winning the division and not being in the running for the 6th playoff spot. I’m also not sure what the GM has done really to have so much faith in him? He may be great he may not. I also have no issue with the people who say they have a plan and pro what is going on. Also don’t blame people for hating this plan

Doesn’t make either a better or worse fan, and spending doesn’t make wins but if I was a Sox fan I’d be more in the make this team better now group.

You just summed up my stance perfectly. Thank you.

This.

The Red Sox have the 3rd highest franchise value in the league, and the 3rd highest revenue generated. That plus the amount of wealth the FSG members have leaves zero excuse for the recent trend of building a team like they have the financial means of the Rays.

I think that's an over-exaggeration to a degree. Sox are still Top 15 in payroll (13th I think?). Yeah, they aren't top 6 like they've been for basically forever, but its one year, and I think its temporary.

Lots of quality starting pitching coming available next year (Flaherty, Giolito, Nola, Snell, Urias and possibly Ohtani). I'd expect to see one or more of them at Fenway next year, and the Sox getting back to splashing the cash once again.

If they get 2-3 quality arms in that rotation (probably 3), they've got the offense to make some noise.

I'm trusting the Sox.

Full disclosure: I don't follow the Sox like I used to, don't sit and watch much, and I wouldn't recognize many players(I recognize every Bruin), but for the heck of it, I put $80 on the Sox to win the AL pennant, at +3000.

Same percent chance of winning the WS as my Metropolitans, at 1/2 the price!

Jon Heyman has been put on ignore in this thread

I mean this is hilarious. I said Chaim should be fired if they aren't in playoff contention. Being under .500 would do. Yet because I said it I am an idiot and put on ignore.

Don’t know much about him. I feel the Sox finishing below .500 would be a big disappointment. I’d be big on “the hot seat” but would understand moving on at that point as well.
