To be fair, I was impressed by New Brunswick and Newfoundland mainly because I had higher expectations for Nova Scotia to begin with. I actually thought they had a pretty strong line-up on paper but thought they performed similarly to New Brunswick during the tournament and even NL seemed to be quite close to me.

Thought some of the highly rated NS players did poorly versus expectations and some others did very well versus expectations. I don't know that this should have a huge impact on where they are ranked on a list when trying to project their impact in 3 years at the QMJHL level, it's just one week of hockey, but it sure is going to be reflected on some of the lists at some point (rightfully so). Scouting is a process, rankings move around. Even at the end of the year, you usually have 5-10 guys that are pretty much the same level but personal preferences can end up dictating whether a guy is ranked 23rd or 34th on your list.
I agree with your thoughts on most of these issues but having been at the games and watching NFLD play on two different occasions , I would have to strongly disagree with your view that they were close . They played in the weakest division of all and their game against PEI was the worst game that I witnessed in all the games I attended . The only real team that they played was NS and they were outshot by 16 shots and never scored a goal . They were in no way close to any of the teams in Group B and probably not any of the teams in Group A . I am sure there are several skilled players on that team but it is difficult to display your talent when your team lacks depth . In our regular U18 leagues we see the same issue with skilled players playing on the lower level teams in the league . Hard to be noticed when your team is always out played and out classed but that is also an issue when players are ranked for the Q League . Many skilled players don't get ranked high because they play on the weaker teams . Much easier to get recognition when you play on the first place team as apposed to being on the last place team . Also your comment that " it is just one week of hockey " really downplays the actual quality and intensity of that week of hockey . Many of these kids played six games of the most grueling and skilled hockey they have ever played in their lives . Most kids get worn out in a regular weekend hockey tournament . Can you fathom what it is like to play six days in a row at this level of hockey . So it wasn't just a week of hockey but rather the MOST challenging thing these kids have ever done .

When would Q notify players of the following tourney ?

"Finally, the last QMJHL Cup event will occur in April of 2023 in Boisbriand, Quebec. This yearly showcase will regroup the top 40 prospects from the Atlantic Provinces as well as the top 80 prospects from Quebec."

I think it's going to be in quite a while still. April 14th last year.

M17AAA league championship (Chevrolet Cup) ends on April 16th so they should announce the invited players right after for the QMJHL Cup (from April 26-30)
There's roughly 70 (2007 born) players in M18AAA, some of them won't be able to attend the Cup due to the national M18 Telus cup that plays at the same time (April 24-30).
St-Hyacinthe Gaulois' are hosting the tournament so Desnoyers/Guite won't be playing QJMHL Cup, as well as other 2007 born players playing for the other QC team participating in the Telus Cup.
QJMHL scouts will complete the 2007 rosters of 80 players with the best M17AAA players. I think there's 7 (2007) goalies playing M18AAA so they should invite one more from M17AAA to complete the 8 spots.

** UPDATE MARCH 15th **
QMJHL has posted the official schedule for the Cup

Do you know if those invites are sent via mail, email, etc?
Players have to respond by Mar 24th. Telus Cup that same weekend also in QC so players who attend Telus Cup instead would be refunded. 2007s in U18AAA Atlantics winning team will have a choice to make. Assuming most would play Telus unless Q was def their preferred route.

The invitation was sent out by email.
Is there a reason why this is held in Quebec every year ? It has to be an expensive ordeal for the kids from the Atlantic provinces . As mentioned earlier , many more kids from Quebec are selected in the draft , especially the earlier rounds . Would NOT attending be much of a detriment to those who may choose not to go ? Are teams really willing to take a chance on losing good draft choices because the didn't attend this event ? When you have been around hockey for a long time , you get to see many " money grabs " and I am not convinced that this is not just another one . Most teams now know what players they are interested in and perhaps have started to contact them . This event is convenient for only the scouts and the players from Quebec . If it is really necessary , why not alternate from year to year and have it somewhere in the Atlantic area from time to time ? Just my opinion !!!

The fee is in the vicinity of $750.00 which is a fair amount of money for sure !!! Is it worth it ?????
I think the fee covers the hotel , meals and games for the kids . The parents still have to get there and pay for their room and meals . You are looking at a family expense of $2500 ++ at least and what for ?? That would be for the kids from the Atlantic region !!!!

Have heard multiple people say Q Cup is for teams that didn’t do their homework all year🤷🏼‍♂️.

NL has a typical 6 players of the Atlantic 40 going, 4F 1D 1G. Quite possible that some of the 6 may not be drafted regardless.

On average 75% of kids drafted are from QC

Another issue I have is the fact that many players are no longer playing because their teams are out . By the time April 26th rolls around , lots of guys will not have played in a month or more so what are you going to find out about them that you didn't know already ? The Winter Games should have been sufficient to provide the best information on the players who might go in the first two or three rounds . These guys were in tip top shape and you are getting a good picture of how they can perform against some of the best players in the country !!! Not likely are they going to be just as well prepared late April . A major expense and perhaps a waste of time and money , especially for the Atlantic kids and their parents !!!

Actually, for the maritime kids, with the Dieppe Cup, the Canada Games, the Monctonian and the Icejam... if you haven't seen them yet, there's something wrong with your scouting staff.

On the Quebec side, I feel like there is value to seeing a tournament like this with all the best 2007 players involved, many guys that will go in round 2 to 4 did not make Team Quebec at the Canada Games, and we have not had a similar tournament to the Dieppe Cup either. There's only one tournament in the middle of the season. + it allows us to see the guys from Espoir against the AAA guys and see them compared head to head, as well as the guys that were in the USA.

I love the QMJHL Cup at the end of the year for scouting purposes personnally, but with all the events of this year in the maritimes, I can understand your point.

I also believe that the QMJHL Cup is part of the process for the selection of the players to the Team Canada U17 camp.

Agree, many kids who have played Monctonian / IJ / CWG already, that should be enough of a sample size to capture most potential Atlantic kids for the draft. For example, adding Meltdown to the list for spring might not justify the cost / benefit. Wasn't thinking far enough ahead about Q Cup being used to evaluate U17 group.

Q Cup isn't streaming but nothing preventing parents from streaming. I will likely be FB streaming some games of teams with NL kids.

How are the U18 Atlantics looking this year? I know Moncton was a powerhouse last year. Growlers haven't played any of the teams in Atlantics (at Monctonian or IceJam) so tough to gauge but they have 6F & 1D who are 2007s so fairly young team.

Maybe Charlottetown Knight this year.
They won in the Monctonian and 2nd in Ice Jam.
They only lost Ross Campbell to Islanders.
