Has anyone considered that if we progressively go smaller and smaller from Gryz, we may have players impossible to hit?

At 4'7 or so I gotta think someone with a great shot would be very elusive. Maybe we've been thinking about this wrong the whole time?

Skating right between people's legs is a lot easier than trying to go around them.

Pump the brakes, my guy. Did I say I want the likes of Heinen and Bjork on the 4th line? And when did I even reference the defense?

That proposed 4th line features a "center" with a career 43.9% faceoff win percentage (43.9!) and Lucic at wing. They would get absolutely throttled in their own end and you know it.
Sorry, bit feisty this morning, old guy aches and pains from humidity. Fredric needs to work on his faceoffs, i wonder how much he did last year where he played wing for the most part. I like Lauko's speed and grit and Lucic will hammer folks, you may not want to be giving them a lot of D zone faceoffs but overall I like the line.

Both Frederic's and Lauko's futures are as bottom 6 forwards, if this is a retooling season teaching them to be better defensively is a good idea. If they can be taught to be responsible in their own end and get 30/35 points from each they would be the nucleus for a very good third line going forward.

I think Frederic is a third line W this year with Colye and Geekie will wind up being given every chance to be the number 2 center if Bergeron doesn't come back. Krejci I would be shocked to see.

Kicking the can one more season is fine with me. Plenty of cap space next summer to obtain a top 6 center
Sorry, I just have to disagree it is better for them to leave little early than to leave to late ..............Maybe if Bergey did not have a back problem one more run with him might be fine ,but you know that back problem could a issue all year and disruptive ,, my opinion is move on and see what you have and than make some moves if possible also Krecji dictating when he decides to play does not sit well with me , he is the one who took a year off and dragged it out all summer his decision last year , move on from him.............

All good. I actually like Lauko a lot (I think the team could use more aggressive forecheckers like him) and I'll always have a soft spot for Lucic, even if he's lost a step or three.

I'm less convinced that Frederic can continue to produce in the bottom 6, especially at center where he hasn't proven to be effective. I'm of the belief that last season was a bit of an outlier for him rather than an indication of what he could possibly be going forward. But we shall see.

I’m ok with the 4the line for now it seems like there is a clear direction with that line of being tough to play against.
Lucic-Freddy-lauko

The 3rd line is questionable it seems a group cobbled together with no clear role. It’s not toughness. Goal scoring, probably not. The line has no identity. Even if Bergy resigns and you can slot Coyle down there it seems like a line put together by an expansion team just looking to fill spots.

JVR- Geekie-????

Then maybe Lucic-Freddy-Greer would be even better.

so let's see you make the cap work with keeping Hall

and not trading Grz or Forbort, since I bet that they have been trying
There’s plenty of ways they could’ve saved cap. Moving options like Ullmark, Grzcelyk, or Frederic saves cap. Not signing Geekie saves cap. That’s without even moving Forbort yet.

I don’t understand why people don’t want to attach a decent pick to move Forbort’s contract. If we’re rebuilding then fine, I’m okay with not attaching assets to him. But if we’re keeping Ullmark, keeping the D-core, potentially bringing Bergeron and Krejci back, we’re not willing to attach a 2nd or whatever it would be to make room for Hall? Instead we’d rather have JVR play 2nd line?

It just seems like they’re stuck in the middle of not making a decision on whether to start the rebuild or go for it again.

Getting rid of Forbort nets $2M-ish. Because you have to replace him on the roster. Not enough by a long shot.

You have to have a 2nd round pick to attach a 2nd round pick.

But Forbort+Ullmark is 6+

Marchand-Bergeron-Debrusk
Hall-Zacha-Pastrnak
JVR-Coyle-Frederic
Lucic-Geekie-Lauko

Grzcelyk-McAvoy
Lindholm-Carlo
Zboril-Shattenkirk

Swayman
Bussi

Something like this works. You can tinker with Geekie’s money if you’d rather have a better backup goalie or whatever, but you’d be under the cap with something like that.

They already have 8 NHL dmen on their roster......why does he need to be replaced? I highly doubt they carry 8 dmen and 13 forwards all year, they're up against the cap more than likely once the RFA's are signed.

I get what you're saying but there's also a 60 goal scorer in that bottom 9 which is pretty ridiculous on its own

& that’s the only good thing about it.

The forwards from 5-9 are really rough looking in comparison to other Eastern teams.

The defense+ goaltending would have to bail them out

Still absolutely baffles me that we traded away Hall for nothing and we still have Derek Forbert, Matt Gryzleck on this team making close to 7 million combined ughhhh.

Sweeney panicked no doubt about it. The Hall trade is horrible, I can't even believe people would defend it.

You got 0 assets from a top 6 forward who won the Hart trophy. It's bad.
