Those guys are generational goal scorer...

It's like saying that Suzuki doesn't have a good shot because it's close to Caufield
True but it was to compare him within his draft. In my opinion Fantili Sale Dvorsky for example also have better shots

His shot is honestly not great, he has elite vision, good skating and uses his body quite well for a guy his age. Hence the Dach comparison ;)

I mean I just watched 30+ games.
He played 10 games in the NCAA, you're a timelord?

More seriously, I go by the belief that all competition was easy for him before hitting the NCAA. He pretty much had a full beard at the start of last season, playing against gen Z'ers with the weird spaghetti hair and tik tok accounts.
Carlsson is giving me Dach vibes, love the way he played in junior but not really confindent in his shot. Could go either way. I also like Dvorsky but he is having a slow start in the Allensvenskan in terms of production. It depends where MTL picks but I don‘t see either of them really catching up on Michkov or Bedard.

Thats a bad evaluation, no disrepect intended. While Carlsson is for sure a pass first, deke now and shoot later kind of player, he is nowhere near what Dach is, which is a defer to the outside instead of moving defenders kind of player.

Carlsson attacks boxes and zones at probably the 2nd highest rate in the last five drafts, maybe 8? Svechnikov and Bedard are the only two other that did/do it even close to what he does. Dach suffers from a lack of assetiveness and vision in the Ozone. Carlsson looks like he has that turned up to 11.

He exploits space in the same way Malkin does, Malkin always had the "weaker" (lmao, I feel stupid writing that.) shot of the top 3-4 players in his generation but he created offense at a similar pace than all the rest. Another name I brought up is Mcdavid, and people (myself included), were mentionning that his "muffin" shot was a problem. Turns out its not when you can exploit the space that you take.

Agree to disagree. Dach has good Hockey IQ but a poor shot.

Good IQ yes, but poor inside vision, space manipulation and scoring instincts. Also a lack of willingness to exploit the inside, which is what makes the truly elite players (Mcdavid, Crosby, Bedard, Carlsson...) so good. They can make the outstanding plays Dach makes on the boards or behind the net, but they can also make plays in tight.

Carlssons amazing and dont you ever bring that slander in here again 😇

Oh Carlsson definitely exploits the inside more than Dach does and I like those kind of players with elite IQ, it is no disrespect to say their shot is not their best asset ;)

McDavid, Malkin have better release than Carlsson in my opinion and had it on draft day. Sorry to go against your Dreams ;)

Malkin Id say yes, Mcdavid Id say no.

I think that Dach have really good hockey IQ, great hands and great skating ability. His lack of having a good scoring instinct... he need to work on that. Faceoffs and his goalscoring ability is his weakness at this moment. The rests look very good with Dach.

Scoring instinct is hockey IQ! You can't say "this player has a good hockey IQ but poor scoring instinct" come on now, it's a bad argument.

True, but he doesn't use it very much. It's the one thing I don't like about him, and prefer Fantilli in this regard. Use yer shot bud.

Let's say it, Backstrom is the biggest comparable for Carlsson with a bit of Peter Forsberg, he's a play maker.

True. I view it as an area where Carlsson has room for growth, than a flaw. He's a pass first player, but sooner or later he'll figure it out (or someone will mention it) that he'll have more room to pass if the defence thinks he's going to shoot.

I think there is a class of pass-first players that are elusive/fast enough that the fact they don't shoot as much doesn't really hinder their passing. He's one of them.

Reminder about Allsvenskan scoring, 0.6ppg is the line we're looking for. If Dvorsky is at or around there, rank him highly. Only 2 players have achieved that mark in their D year: Nylander and Pastrnak

I've caught a bit of Dvorsky recently.

The guy is a PP savant. Would immediately be the best half-wall player we've had since Kovalev. His shooting and scoring instincts are well documented, but his playmaking really flies under the radar. He consistently makes quick, accurate passes through the box. Pinpoint saucer passes on both forehand and backhand. There's shades of Kucherov there.

I've also liked his in-zone play at both ends of the ice. His positioning is overall, quite excellent. He's got a good frame and compete level, if a little underdeveloped physically. He'll be an above average player on the boards, down low and in the faceoff dot. He's calm with the puck and consistently makes the right reads with it.

His biggest weakness is 5v5 neutral zone/transition play. He's just not a dynamic puck carrier, and doesn't really push the pace of play. Not really a threat to take the puck inside or beat a defender 1-on-1. I can see why Slaf (assertive) and Mesar (dynamic puck carrying) would compliment him very well. HIs off-puck offensive play and instincts are much stronger, at least before the play settles down in the OZ.

All in all, I wouldn't be upset taking him at 5. As he is, I don't think Monahan is a bad comparable, with higher playmaking/PP upside. If he can find an extra gear in his skating, which is only fine right now, it would really help him hit another level.

Among the OHL overagers I see the Petes blueliner Samuel Mayer is having a good start to the season, might be someone to keep an eye on? He was the 15th OA pick in the OHL in 2020

I bet you guys didnt know but Ive seen Fantili at 15, I assessed him as a prospect then and dont care what any of you actually have to say because
A) i dont have a life
B) i lie about my prospect knowledge
C) My prospect knowledge isnt that great because I watch them a few minutes and then claim im an expert

😎

Not sure what you are insinuating but hey whatever fits your fantasies.
