I see more subpar straighline speed and conditioning than effort? Maybe I'm wrong though. He consistently tries checking his man with a sticklift even though he's a step behind the play.

Definitely needs to get faster and stronger, like most prospects.
Yeah on those backchecking highlights he always looked more gassed than disinterested imo

I don't think Monahan was ever a 1C.

and the Kopitar comparison makes 0 sense.. Kopitar's got hands and playmaking ability for days, neither of which are Dvorsky's calling card.
Dvorsky has hands and playmaking, stop spreading this fake news lol

Dvorsky absolutely has 1C upside. The real thing with Dvorsky is he’s a guy you want as your 1C when it’s playoff time. He’s not a guy who’s gonna disappear.

Hes right tho, hands and playmaking are not his best attribute.

I do agree with you that he has 1C upside. (obviously i stated it before you quoted wtk).

Where do you rank Dvorsky?

Personally i have him

1. bedard

2. Fantilli and Carlsson

3. Smith, Dvorsky, Reinbacher. (A lot of folks would have Benson here too but id rather one of these three, i have Benson in the very next tier).

Michkov is a no draft for me if these guys are on the board. In "normal" circumstances, i would have Michkov between Bedard and Fantilli/Carlsson So i have Dvorsky 4-6. I would also probably draft the next tier of players (benson, moore, leonard, etc.) ahead of Michkov.

I have him just a hair above Smith at 5th on my list. Don’t have enough info to declare Michkov a no draft personally

I wish that the Regina Pats would have traded Bedard to a better team. It would have been great to see him play in the Memorial cup.

20pts in only 7 games and still a first round exit for the team. The GM should have gone all in with Bedard.

Other than winning the lotto I think my favorite scenario at this point is Michkov dropping to us. I'm just not convinced that there is enough evidence to suggest that the risk of him never coming is greater than the risk of passing on him. Especially considering our young players have started showing we will probably be too good to be in this high of a position again outside of a really lucky lotto jump. I don't think we should be passing on that caliber of prospect at 5/6.

Outside of that, give me Reinbacher/Smith, draft BPA forward at 17, and use the CGY pick/something else to acquire Dubois.

What do you think Dvorsky needs to improve to become a 1C in the NHL?

His skating. I’ve said it before, but he’s a clearly athletic kid but would benefit from a skating coach as he’s hunched over in his stride. On occasions I’ve seen him flying around, other times he looks like he’s skating in sand. If he can be consistent with his stride he could be a great skater and that would be what takes him to the next level.

I'd keep the Calgary pick. Hopefully it's protected in 2024 and they tank in 2025. If anything, I'd rather give up a few 2nds that that 1st. Never know what that pick might be

Ideally I'd like to keep both the FLA pick and CGY pick. But for the 2025 version I believe we would need both CGY and FLA to be in the bottom 10 for us to get a top 10 pick out of it, and the odds of that happening are probably unlikely. So at that point it kind of becomes a time value calculation, do we prefer the 17th pick now or a 10-20 pick 2-3 years from now?

It would be great if we could keep both but not sure the feasibility of that, we'll see what HuGo can do (or if we even acquire Dubois at all).

Personally I slightly lean to keeping the FLA pick, we know with the depth in this draft we can get a real high quality forward (Heidt, Honzek, Perrault, Wood, Danielson, Cristall,). That player should be near ready by the time we even draft with the CGY pick, which we would have to wait another 2-3 years longer for that player. At that point we're talking up to 6 years from now that player is stepping in.

Remember not to slip into the Toronto trap. ELCs in the middle of LT contracts are very valuable. Especially during tumultuous resigning negotiations I'd rather opt for a prospect and a 2nd or two instead of the 1st from calgary

Imagine you draft Michkov at 5OA and he never comes over. Damn, that sucks, egg on our face... how many players chosen after him until our next pick would reasonably turn out to be relevant impact players in the NHL? Four, five, six at a push? It sucks but it's part of the risk, consider him a bust and move on.

Imagine now you skip Michkov and another team picks him up and he becomes an impact player. The burn is so much worse -- it's unforgivable even. It's like the Kostitsyn draft or the Kotkaniemi draft all over again. It'll never be forgotten. Especially if he actually touches his potential as a franchise player.

That's how I see it with Michkov. I don't think it's even worth speculating over at this point -- Bobrov hopefully has a phone and he hopefully knows how to use it to dial further east than Slovakia and he hopefully knows how to ask the right questions to satisfy his concerns.

I know you guys hate Grant, but this is a great video of Dvorskys game against Germany that most of us couldn’t watch.

As you should see, his hands and passing ability are on display numerous times- not to mention 4 clutch goals in a must win game coming back from down 4-2 in the 3rd.

How is the lottery being picked ?
They use to draw balls in front of our eyes but not anymore.
How can we be sure this is not rigged somehow ??

There are 2 rooms with identical lottery devices
1. for the first pick, the habs have all the balls
2. for all the remaining picks, another device with the other teams, who cares.

oups I wasn't supposed to tell

Just curious - what time stamps are the display of his hands and passing ability?

I just want to know where we are seeing things differently on this issue.

I went through this exercise re: Wright with Mrb1p last year, and his analysis did not match up with the tape.

0:26, 0:35, 0:55, 2:14, 2:48, 3:10, 3:20 (2 on the same rush)

And that’s just to that point lol it’s throughout the video lol

He’s not Will Smith in regards to his hands and vision, but he’s still got nice hands and vision.
