I can’t imagine anyone wanting to double down on Slaf and Mešar no matter how they might end up being in the future. If Dvorsky is the best player left available I could see it but where we are drafting there will be many options and Dvorsky doesn’t stand out as a Must Draft, so doing it because there is a supposed Slovak connection is likely to be counter productive.

You gotta know when to hold ‘em, and when to fold ‘em, and when to walk away…
You’re the second guy to misunderstand this post. I wasn’t saying to draft Dvorsky because he’s Slovakian lol

Bobrov is just one decision maker.
True, but he does seem to wield a lot of influence.

Which I’d argue is probably not a good thing.

There was speculation that Hughes wanted Cooley last year and Bobrov was the catalyst that resulted in them picking Slafkovsky. It seems to fit his previous m.o from NYR as well, so while we’ll never know if that’s actually true it does fit the pre-existing narrative regarding Bobrov’s preference in prospects.

Where’d you hear that? Seems pretty clear that it came down to Slafkovsky and Wright considering they were the two guys we were meeting with draft week.

The man certainly does not try to hide his bias :laugh: this is like those Wright clips of him coasting as F3 all over again

I see more subpar straighline speed and conditioning than effort? Maybe I'm wrong though. He consistently tries checking his man with a sticklift even though he's a step behind the play.

Definitely needs to get faster and stronger, like most prospects.

Again, just rumblings on Twitter verse.

It may have very well been down to Slaf and Wright as a team at the end, but that doesn’t mean Hughes didn’t like Cooley the most personally. Afterall, there’s an entire team of personnel involved in these decisions.

GM would obviously have last say, but I doubt very much KH had any intention of pulling a heavy on his team in his first draft.

It ONLY happens if Ottawa wins the Bedard lottery. They can only move up 10 spots, so #2. If we then win the 2nd lottery, we can't just take their win away, so Montreal gets the next best spot #3. Anaheim stays at #1.

The chance of that happening is 0.3%.
I like those odds.

Barlow has a modern quick release shot in the mold of Bedard and Matthews

Dont think hes available at 17 but would be fun to have him and Caufield

I what I notice through the video footage of Will Smith is that he is an extremely skilled and talented player. I could easily see why the Blue Jackets would rather draft him over Michkov.

Dvorsky at 5 is legit and it has nothing to do with his nationality. In my opinion he has 1C upside in the mold of the Kopitar, (prime) Monahan.

I don't think Monahan was ever a 1C.

and the Kopitar comparison makes 0 sense.. Kopitar's got hands and playmaking ability for days, neither of which are Dvorsky's calling card.

Do you think Dvorsky has 1C potential ?
Personally I don't really see it. He could have a Zibanejad type development, I would not rule that out. But personally I see him more in the mold of Josh Norris, Sean Monahan (upper level), and Dvorak (lower level). Solid powerplay contributor, but not an offensive driver by any means.

Definitely a solid player, could end up one of the best players of the draft. But, this team needs more pure talent imo.

I get a Jake Guentzel vibe from him. Just a great complimentary winger that does a lot of things right and is willing to do the hard work. Shoot-first obviously. He will make a team very happy. Won’t be the best player in the draft but he could be the one that tilts a playoff series with his type of play.
