People come in the 2023 Draft thread and expect that here we'll want to trade a top pick in one of the best draft in years for a player that will be UFA and a year and said he wants to sign here.

I dunno. I've been watching drafts for years and I'm really excited about that #17.
The separate PLD thread isn’t enough?

JFC, dead horses flogged daily on PLD.

These kids tend to flash but are not consistent with it in a pro league. Seider left a lot on the table in the DEL.

Lets see where he's at during the Worlds. That's where Seider really popped.
I would love to see him pop and he does have the skill set and attributes to do it, I just saw higher high and lower low with Seider before he pop, so I just don’t see the same offensive celling, it doesn’t mean that he can’t be productive or I that don’t think Reinbacher is a great player.

Top 10, according to Craig Button.

1. Connor Bedard (C) - Regina (WHL)
2. Matvei Michkov (RW) - Morozova (MHL)
3. Adam Fantilli (C) - Chicago (USHL)
4. Calum Ritchie (C) - Oshawa (OHL)
5. Dalibor Dvorsky (C) - AIK (J20 Nationell)
6. Brayden Yager (C) - Moose Jaw (WHL)
7. Zach Benson (LW) - Winnipeg (WHL)
8. Leo Carlsson (C) - Orebro (SHL)
9. Charlie Stramel (RW) - US NTDP
10. Theo Lindstein (D) - Byrnas (J20 Nationell)

Bedard, Fantilli, Ritchie, Dvorsky, Carlsson - get into bottom 5 and take one.
Whoa - Stramel was considered top 10 at one point?
Top 10 to think 'Potato' was a color maybe.

We might get boned by the lottery all the way back to the 7th pick. So who is everyone's 7 names?

For me it's

Bedard, Michkov, Fantilli, Carlsson, Smith, Reinbacher, and I don't have a clear 7th name at the moment.

Luckily we have a higher chance of picking top 2 than picking 7 but here's where I am at.

Bedard
Carlsson
Fantilli
Michkov
Smith
Reinbacher
Benson

The 17OA could be the long-coveted productive powerhouse forward we’ve been waiting for all along.

We don’t need a Pierre-Luc Dubois, we’ve got magic beans
I get the point and I might even agree with it. I'm not really sure but I hope you guys realize that in the allusion you're referring to Jack's beans really did provide magic. So you're really contradicting yourselves.

The common understanding is not Jack and his Magic Beanstalk (children’s story) but rather snake oil salesmen, hucksters, and those who place hope in false promises.

Magic doesn’t exist and magic beans don’t exist. Statistical evidence (and you don’t need to look deeply into it or use esoteric analysis) shows a 17OA or later is unlikely to become a player like PLD. Yet hockey fans more than NFL, NBA, etc. tend to put an excessive amount of premium on the draft picks and too much less so on the known commodities.

Think about it: there are people who seriously think PLD is too old for the Habs.

Also those magic beans aren't going to be taking up a large chunk of your salary cap while you are trying to develop a contending team.

But for the record... I think you will need to give the 17th + to get PLD and I don't think it's necessarily too much... I'm just not sure he is the right guy to be spending the big bucks on...

Im torn when it comes to this player. Everyone has repeated the pros for making the trade. Ill state the cons.
1. Two teams two cities he wanted out. My spider senses are alerted.
2. He says he wants to play in mtl. How much does he want to play? Could it to be mtl is one of 6 or 7 or 8 cities? That would be a reason to trade for him and get ahead of the curve. If he has a yen only only fot mtl then we can wait for his ufa avaliability.
3. I have heard too many players - both quebecois and non quebecois say they wanted to play in mtl. Turned out it was just a bargain ploy.
4.i prefer pld plus whatever player we get at 17 to pld minus the 17 rd player and whatever else it would take to get him. I know it could backfire if we dont trade for him but it can also backfire if we do trade for him. Just look at con 1 ad an example.
