If they pick Smith over Michkov man... I can understand Fantili if they really believe in the size+KHL thing but Smith isnt big, is soft, not as skilled and is going back NCAA at least one year.
And Smith is almost as far away from playing in the NHL as Michkov. One year in the NCAA. Another in the A. Then another year of getting used to the NHL.

Michkov easily for me. I would think management picks Smith in this instance.

But again, if Dach keeps looking like this, you almost have to take a winger to help him rather than a centre to replace him.
This is an underrated HUGE factor in the decision honestly, at least i believe so anyway
The fact Dach can play well at wing too makes it an even tougher thing to ponder about, im glad its not my job lol
But lets just see where we land with our pick first
You can pass on Michkov at 3 or 4 fine its their prerogative, but you cannot pass on him at 5 or 6 imo
You definitely WANT to be in that top4, but that top8 isnt the end of the world either, anything helps us

Dach is inconsequential to the draft. Pick the best talent possible and worry about depth chart later.

Also the same reason why picking a goaltender in the first is absolutely bonkers. Unless hes Price, the value isnt there, and even if hes Price, it could be argued that the value isnt there anyway.

Lots of smoke that we wouldn't draft Michkov with our first 1st and would only consider it with the second 1st if he's available. Habs are eager to rush another player who may or may not put it together in 3 years whereas Michkov will come in 3 years and have a Kaprizov-like impact.

One of these forward with Habs pick and i'm very happy. They all 12 forward with high potential.

1 - Bedard.
2 - Fantilli.
3 - Carlsson.
4 - Michkov.
5 - Smith.
6 - Benson.
7 - Yager.
8 - Dvorsky.
9 - Moore.
10 - Heidt.
11 - Sale.
12 - Barlow.

With Florida pick not in order :

Nate Danielson.
Ryan Leonard.
Mikhail Gulyayev.
David Reinbacher.
Gabe Perreault.
Andrew Cristall.
Calum Ritchie.
Matthew Wood.
Axel-Sandin Pellikka.

So if we finish with 2 players in that list... it's a W draft for Habs.

D year Raymond vs D year Carlsson is not even close. Not. Even. Close.
I was not saying they were if you come back to the initial conversation ;)

I follow European prospects more closely than NA ones but in my opinion Reinbacher + ASP should be above Dvorsky + Sale.

I'm pretty sure we will have the choice of 2 of the guys in your top list... but I also think we may like some of the guys in your bottom list better ;)

Michkov could be in the NHL next year
Do you mean he has the ability and skill-level to play in the NHL next year, or that he might find a way out of his contract to join the team that drafts him? I agree that he's NHL ready, the kid is incredibly gifted.

Leonard assisted by Moore, beauty. Top line splited for tonight game. Smith playing with Perreault, Moore with Leonard.

Moore displayed his elite skating on that first goal and a beauty feed for Leonard who ended it up with a great shot.

Moore is a total beast on the forecheck, constantly forcing plays, retrieving pucks and put his opponents in trouble. Kid combines elite skating, high end motor, high IQ, strong puckhandling skills, good passing and has deadly wrister. Whats not to like about his game?

Moore is a better prospect than Cooley, discuss.

Do you think Moore is a center in the NHL? I read somewhere (I forget where) that he might be better as a winger

I really hope we can acquire a third first round pick, but I just don’t see how we have the assets to do so. Especially with Monahan and Edmundson now injured.

Yep I talked about that a bit earlier, his tools are suitable and translatable for both positions, but he clearly can play down the middle, has the smarts, strength, very good positioning and is pretty strong in the dots. Kid is solid on 200 ft.

Only skill Cooley has the edge over Moore IMO is playmaking. Moore's playmaking is not high end, thats the only thing that could make him a winger more than a center, but I would say thats still good enough. Smith is also a better playmaker than Moore.

Moore skills chart:

Skating 9 Motor 9 Puckhandling 7 Playmaking 6 shooting 7 IQ 7 Strength 7.

But he can't be

Yandex was leaked online yesterday (at least 2-3 billion USD in IP)....crazier things are happening.

Potential upcoming Stastny situation. All the Russian talent, in every industry, is leaving. Not sure why hockey would be any different. The contract between the federation and the KHL might be ignored by the federation (under Nato orders, as a political lever), allowing the NHL and European league to pick the KHL clean.

Not saying any of this is happening, what I'm saying is we are entering a non-linear time and this should be factored in the Michkov situation.

I will understand if Habs pick Moore with at 7-10 range. More I watch Moore, more I think he is a top 10 talent in this draft. High potential, for sure.
