The point is that you never know where the next star will come from. while most 1st rd picks are expected to make the NHL there are plenty of examples of misses in the 1st/2nd 3rd rds as well. It's a crap shoot & you hope that you hit more often than miss but every team in every draft win some & lost some.
I just feel like people overvalue the picks relative to their trade value.

I'd be happy if we traded most of our picks outside of the first round, pretty much every year. There's also the rare chance that a guy we get with the traded picks takes off mid career. Super rare, obviously, but so are the odds of getting players with those late draft picks.

If Ott ends up with Detroit's 17th OA pick I see two potential picks, Quentin Musty LW or Oliver Bonk RD, both address a need. Although how long it takes either to be NHL ready is another story.

I wonder if we cant deal our 4th round pick for a useful bottom six player.

Just trade the remaining picks. They're almost certainly worthless.
We should have done this even earlier in the season. With no picks we could have saved on scouting, you know the salary of the one Algonquin College intern we have.

I mean, it's kind of funny seeing this post after seeing others point out our late round draft successes.

Mark Stone and Drake Batherson might both go in the top 5 if you were to do a redraft of all the 4th+ round picks made over the last 13 years (Kaprizov goes #1 i think).

So that gonk intern is really earning their academic credit.

If we get 17, I imagine Musty,, Wood, Danielson, Barlow, Bonk and Willander to be guys of great interest to the Sens.

Other guys who we probably like based on previous selections include Otto Stenberg, Cal Ritchie, Maxim Strbak, Fisker Mølgaard, and Samuel Honzek.

I think it’s sort of frustrating that we miss on early picks especially second rounders and a few firsts but for some reason but have so much success with later picks

First 60 should be relatively easy

I doubt it's the same intern who drafted Mark Stone and Tyler Boucher...

Less facetiously, I'm agreeing with you: luck plays a huge role in late rounds. You don't draft Stone in the 5th round if you know he's going to be this good.

Yeah, exactly.

Our record in the top 3 rounds isnt that amazing either. Makes no sense that a team would only be good at drafting dark horses.

It's 90% luck.

If Ottawa is able to move DeBrincat for a 1st rd pick & they are able to draft Oliver Bonk RD we could see a future pairing of .... Bonk & Donovan who probably grew up together.

Two good sized D (about the same size) who can skate, move the puck, put up some pts & are errily similar to each other. Bonk is clearly the better all around D, better defensively & younger & both put up similar numbers last yr.

Jorian Donovan LD (45 pts) - Oliver Bonk RD (40 pts)

Awful pick by the Habs IMO

Even if you really liked him you frankly should have taken the Flyers offer of 7+22+ and gamble that he gets past the Yotes @ 6

why are they trying to interview the kid when he’s having a moment with his family. The post selection sit down interview is enough
