age requirements for drafts are so strange sometimes... both Perreault and Matthews record setting seasons (assuming Perreault hits it)

Matthews record breaking season I think for purposes of "age" was considered his 16 year old season, by NHL standards, because he was born on September 17th, instead of the 15th or earlier... so even though he would have played all of the season as a 17 year old, it counts as his 16 season... so then he would go on to play in Switzerland for his "17" season, even though he played all of it as an 18 year old.

meanwhile Perreault's numbers aren't "as impressive" because this is his draft year, even though he played the entire season... as a 17 year old.

Both were the same aged seasons. NHL draft cutoff doesn’t do anything about the age.

Matthews played in the U-18 team in his 17 year old season, and played in Switzerland in his 18 year old season.

I guess I just mean more in terms of eligibility? like, since Matthews was 18 on September 17th, his first NHL season was played as a 19 year old... he had the opportunity to showcase himself in Switzerland as an 18 year old... whereas Perreault wont get that same opportunity... he is going to go from USNTDP straight into the draft. I'm doing a bad job of conveying my thoughts but I don't know how to properly explain what I mean.

Late birthdays and insurance. NHL has a cutoff so all players who step onto NHL ice, training camp included, are 18 at the time of start.

Guys born Sept 17-Dec 31 get an extra season prior to the Draft. CHLers, like Ben Roger, get drafted in their 18 year old season and 3rd eligible in the CHL, whereas Jorian Donovan gets drafted in his 17 year old season and 2nd eligible in the CHL. Both get drafted in their first year of NHL draft eligibility, Rogers late birthday means he plays his 18 year old season in the CHL.

Americans like Matthews, or Matt Tkachuk, or Brady, play their 17 year old season with the U18 team, and then head off to play their 18 year old draft season in NCAA, usually, or the CHL and Europe, prior to being drafted

Matthews turned 17 4 months after Perreault turned 17. Both are U18 as of Dec 31. Age isn't a significant reason to say 1 season is less than the other. I assume level of competition is similar .. without a deep dive on that. Maybe Perreault has better linemates again another deeper dive required. NHL draft is not relevant to this comparison.

Pretty stacked

So I guess his line has to share a good chunk of icetime with the rest of the team, or does his line get the bulk of scoring opportunities? That's more what I'm getting at. If they're rolling lines a fair bit to give everyone icetime, then his accomplishment is helluva impressive (it's impressive either way, but you know what I mean).

Top 3 scorers are all on the top line at the U18s.. Smith and Leonard are both in the top 10 on McKenzie's current list.
Oliver Moore 2nd line C is 11..
Perreault is ranked in 23

Not as crazy as 2019 for 1st rounders coming out of the USNDP

St Louis have two 1st rd picks which at the moment seem to be 25th OA & 27th OA. I wonder what it would take to get that 27th OA pick from them & whether Brannstrom or Thomson plus would be enough?

Lukas Dragicevic RD seems to be ranked somewhere in the late twenties depending on which site you use & should be a target for this team if they would like to have a top 4 RD on their future team.

I’m surprised you’d want a defender like a Dragicevic. Kid has size but is one of the most non-physical kids in the class, and is essentially A 4th forward.

Top 4 RD who can put up pts, pushes Zub down to the 3rd pair in a few yrs & gives them another top 4 option as Chabot ages & decisions need to be made in a few yrs. Depth for the future & gives them something from this draft to look forward to.

Not making the playoffs or having a draft pick in the top 64 of what seems to be a stacked draft feels bad man
However, having a 25 year old winger who can score 30-40 goals a season seems pretty good too.

PS: Having a #10 draft pick playing like a second or third round draft pick is not a very happy circumstance either. :)
