Corey Pronman is one of the guys who's highest on Reinbacher and in his description he has "not dynamic with the puck".
Wow the just screams 5th overall value!

He’s not, but he has a lot of great tools.

You don’t need to be dynamic with the puck to be a great defenseman

Even if he reaches his potential he’s viewed as more of a #3 or #4, at least from what I’ve read by multiple scouting services. That’s fine and all, but you want more with your 5th overall pick, especially when the alternative is a damn near generational forward who is there for the taking.

Another desperation pick.

After picking KK and Galchenyuk in two of the worst center crops in history, we take Reinbacher in the worst defensive class I’ve ever seen.

You don’t get bonus points for picking the biggest fish in the smallest pond.

Legit the only times we simply took what the draft board gave us we ended up with Sergachev and Caufield.

This organization has a fetish for trying to be the smartest group in the room.

Should've accepted the fact we were never picking Michkov, if it wasn't him and the Top Cs were gone then going with a potential top pairing RHD isn't the end of the world even if it feels like a let down at the moment. Wanted Nemec last year so we didn't feel the need to reach for RHD in a forward heavy draft class - time will tell, I also wanted Brule and wasn't a fan of CC ( under the previous Habs coaching team which wasn't looking good til MSL came in) so hopefully my track record of being a poor internet scout stays intact and Orville wins the Calder in 2025

No trades in the first round for the first time since 2013.

8 D selected is surprising considering how it is a forward heavy talent draft.

On TVA Spanre they said that it reminded them of the KK draft where they drafted by need. They left the best player on the board. They also failed to convert their pick into a trading asset when even Hughes admitted that 5 suitors had contacted him about the pick.

You could tell that Hughes had closed the books on dealing the pick when during the time allotted for the Habs to make their selection, everyone was immobile at the Habs’ table, there were no calls.

@waffledave "It's disingenuous to say Reinbacher is going to be, at best, a #2 and then turn around saying we passed on "multiple" potential scoring superstars. We passed on one who has that kind of potential."

That's your opinion and you're free to it. I don't agree that we only passed on one. And I think he's at best at #2 cause I don't see any real big offensive potential there with Reinbacher.

I'm sorry. I'm not happy with this pick but if you think anyone drafted after Reinbacher has legit superstar potential (multiple people?) then Reinbacher also deserves to be considered that way. He has #1 dman potential, at best. He has a lot tools and a mature game.

I like Reinbacher. I think he will be a stud for us. I just want more and not picking til rd 3 now blows…probably no other nhl talent coming from this draft.
Honestly i think our prospect pool at forwards is kind of on the weak side. And i'm not sure we will suck enough to address that next year specially if Montembeault keep playing like this year and they use him more. Allen is the key to finish low in the standings and he might play less next season.

Lots of depth, they are all in the same range unless someone really hits a great progression curve.

Imagine we David Fischered ourselves once again, this time with a 5th overall pick.

Typical dumpster fire club that keeps burning since 1996.

You’re losing it, Reinbacher is a good prospect, he’s just not that offensive dynamo we all wanted.

Crazy that if Perrault wasn’t born in Quebec, there would be no Quebec born player selected in the first round.

Disappointing but not that surprising after all.

There was no F way that Hughes would draft Michkov. I am 100% sure that he would had prefered Michkov to be drafted in the top-4, and not had the pressure to pass over him with #5. Habs had Smith and Reinbacher as their first two favourite players. They picked the one left. I am sure he's gonna be a good NHL Player after all.

I would had prefered Habs to draft 3 times in the 1st and keep their #37 if possible.

Trade #5 to Philly for #7 and ??. Get Leonard + a kid like Bonk + whoever they need at #31.

I'm not gonna crap on Reinbacher since like I said in the draft thread it isn't his fault when and where he was drafted but I'm still quite disappointed the Habs picked the dman over some of the forwards still on the board @ 5, but I had that uneasy feeling this was gonna happen and here we are.

Hopefully Hughes and Co got this pick right but right now it feels like Hughes punched me in the face and then kicked me in the plums and I still feel sick to my stomach from it.

Hopefully though Habs management make me eat crow with this pick in the future but right now I'm quite disappointed with this pick from Hughes and Co, not gonna lie.
