I think Nurmi and Mysak are the most underrated prospect. I wouldn't be surprised if Nurmi jumped to top 25 next year.

Agree on Nurmi.

But I don't see it with Mysak, especially if Houle is stays as a coach.

Up until the AHL he's been pretty great, especially in his last WJC. I'm not expecting him to be putting much points but he had decent numbers in the OHL.

I hope he figures it out at the Pro level!

I wouldnt say Mysak has been great in junior. I havent watched him a ton with Hamilton, but always thought he was lacking skills. He is a hard worker and plays a nice 2-way game, but Ive never been much impressed personally, he is not a big guy either so Im wondering what role he is suited for. Always reminded me of a poor man Lehkonen, just think we have better prospects.

Nurmi's seemed very poised and solid in the times I've seen him play.

But he's listed at 6'0 feet 167 lbs, isn't overly offensive, plays LD, and is an over-ager, so still definitely a long shot to have an impact on the Habs or have big trade value. But I'm rooting for him.

I like our D depth, I like our G depth after this draft. Forwards however...sheesh, I'm not excited.

On the positive side, we fo have 4 good ones that have recently graduated: Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Slaf - plus RHP, Newhook, and Ylonen.

But I would be a lot more optimistic if we had added Michkov and Dubois this offseason.

Interesting...

I'm more bullish on our forwards than our goalies.

& with Suzuki, CC, Dach, Slaf, Newhook, RHP & Ylonen all under 24, the org. forward depth is pretty solid imo

The NHL part of our forwards is interesting, the AHL/pre-AHL part is not good.
I think it's fine.

The prospect pool includes a number of legitimate potential middle six forwards, which is great.

They can acquire one more top line forward by trade.

I agree with the top3. After that, I’m not sure I would have Roy 4th. Our forward group leaves a lot to be desired. Not much interesting in that group imo. We will see how they develop.

The forward group looks real weak imo.

I wouldn't be surprised if engstrom is the biggest riser of all time.

Meh.

I'd be surprised if our non- NHL forward prospect group is outside of the top tier league-wide... And of those with better pools, I'd bet that our <25 NHL group is better than most.

Relative to the league, our forward prospect group is quite strong.

I doubt that's true; our non-AHL is probably bottom 10. I can think of 15 better teams off the top of my head... It's not rocket science we've over-indexed in terms of picks for Ds while trading picks for young NHL forwards. I'm not after Hughes for this state of affairs (yet); it's a clear strategy. If we had traded #5 this year for Yager and Benson, our non-NHL group would be top 10 - those pools are always shallow.

Bottom 10? I doubt that. Perhaps I'm simply more bullish on our group then you are :dunno:

What we lack in elite talent, we more than make up in depth.

Time will tell, but I'd bet on this group ending up top 10 in NHL games played ten years from now.

That doesn't say much. It might mean we'll suck for the next 10 years; therefore, we'll keep rotating bad players in the NHL teams (look at how many players are used by worst tanking teams vs. the top NHL teams).

There's just 1 first-rounder in that group who is not going stellar right now, let's face it (I'm not saying Mesar can't turn it around).
In our 4x 2nd rounders. Kidney/Tuch seems like likely future busts to me. Beck and Hein are promising.
Our other promising players, Farrell and Roy, look like middle 6 forwards; we will see how they develop.

Yes, of course, Slafkovski, Dach and Newhook, we'll see if they can settle into franchise-pushing roles, an expectation that comes with the value of the draft assets we exchanged for them.

For the record, we are 2 years into this rebuild without anything sure added at forward.
