#170 Seattle Kraken

With the 170th pick of the 2023 NHL entry draft the Seattle Kraken are proud to select for the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL.

G –Samuel Urban 6‘1‘’ 183lbs

1679055724644.png

Scouting report:

He impressed in the World Junior Under-17 by keeping his Slovakian team in games they really shouldn't have been as strong competitors in. Urban was under siege for much of the tournament. He was, arguably, the MVP of Team Slovakia. The “butterfly/athletic” goalie never quits on pucks. He’s rangy in his crease and showed he can move laterally to make first and second saves. An area of weakness is his rebound control. Urban has active pads and tends to kick pucks back out into traffic areas.

#22 LW– Quentin Musty 6‘2‘’ 203lbs
#50 RW- Mathieu Cataford 5‘11‘’ 187lbs
#54 LD – Jakub Dvorak 6‘5‘’ 203lbs
#61 RD – Tom Willander 6‘1‘’ 186lbs
#86 LW – Martin Misiak 6‘2‘’ 190lbs
#119 G – Scott Ratzlaff 6‘1‘’ 170lbs
#150 C –Kevin Bicker 6‘1‘’ 174lbs
#170 G –Samuel Urban 6‘1‘’ 183lbs

Apologies for the delay, we were just finishing counting all the goals we scored on the Habs last night. With the 171st pick of the draft, the Florida Panthers select Joe Conner from Avons Old Farms Prep School (USHS)

Joe-Connor-Web-775-LF.jpg

Scouting report:
Avon Old Farms head coach John Gardner describes Joe Connor (Amherst, N.H.) as a hard-nosed forward and a bit of a wild card who fits in the lineup and the variety of ways that can impact the game.

43. Nick Lardis (RW) - Hamilton Bulldogs (OHL)
107. Cayden Casey (F) - Andover (USHS-MN)
139. Dan Harkimo (F) - Selects Hockey Academy @ South Kent School
171. Joe Conner (C) - Avons Old Farms Prep School (USHS)

4. Anaheim: Leo Carlsson (C) - Orebro (SHL)
36. Anaheim: Carson Rehkopf (LW) - Kitchener Rangers (OHL)
55. Anaheim (from Col): Alexander Rykov (RW) - Chelyabinsk (VHL)
64. Anaheim (from Bos): Lenni Hameenaho (F) - Assat (Liiga)
68. Anaheim: Alex Ciernik (LW) - Sodertalje SK J20 Nationell
85. Anaheim (from Minn): Damian Clara (G) - Farjestad BK J20 Nationell
100. Anaheim: Brad Gardiner (C) - Ottawa 67s (OHL)
132. Anaheim: Kaden Hammell (RD) - Everett (WHL)
164. Anaheim: Yegor Yegorov (G) - Dynamo Muskova (MHL)

The completed draft for Anaheim.

All in all, I am very happy with the picks made. Rehkopf is the only pick I regret, I really should've not gamble on Lardis being there at 55 and Rykov falling to 64. In my mind, that was worth losing out on one of Hameenaho, Ciernik, Gardiner or Clara, whom I think may have been available lower.

This is just a testament that going off board isn't worth it, I picked Rehkopf (40 on my list) at 36 and gave up Lardis (23 and probably rising.).

This draft and last should ensure a steady influx of talent in the Anaheim Ducks roster and should have them contending for a while. Carlsson pushes Zegras in the right chair at 2C or on the wing. It's a bit unusual as a draft for me, if Im honest, aside from the goaltenders, there's no big shot at a star. I think thats representative of the depth of the draft though, after 25ish, there is a lot of quality players, but they are all depth-hopefuls.

I mean that's true of majority of drafts. Pretty rare to get a star after 25. Most are middle 6ers, and organizational depth.

I'm sure Anaheim will do well. Lots of picks & a good Scouting staff.

Thanks for playing.

I find that in some drafts, theres always the high ceiling big guy that won't get drafted too high because of production or some other very obvious drawback or the very small guy. Think of Hutson, Cormier Puistola, Dorofeyev, Spence, Cajkovic, Teply, Fox, SDA, Point or Macceli to name a few.

All these guys IMO had some very noticeable qualities that indicated they could be stars, even though they weren't ranked super high on most lists. I don't see much of that in this draft. I guess Rykov is gonna fall and he's one... But ?

Thanks for hosting, always fun.

Honestly, at this point, I don't know anyone in the draft, so I had to dig a bit in some rankings, spotted him more quickly than I expected but yeah, saw a couple of people who wrote their own reviews, at this point I think he may 'perhaps' become a surprise. Not high potential or anything, but as a bottom-pairing defensive D, yeah, possible.

I also usually try to be thematic with whatever team I get, and Buffalo needs goalies and right-handed dmen, so he fits the part for me. Pretty young too, late june, so it's a bonus.
