#119 Seattle Kraken

With the 119th pick of the 2023 NHL entry draft the Seattle Kraken are proud to select for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL.

G – Scott Ratzlaff 6‘1‘’ 170lbs
1678673482863.png

Scouting report:
Composed and agile, Ratzlaff is rarely caught scrambling, while his strong positioning and quiet footwork allow him to square up effectively to shooters. He’s played well with Seattle in a tandem role with Thomas Milic and was a standout for Canada at the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup in the summer. Ratzlaff continues to show that he might be below average in size for an NHL goalie, but he deserves a long look in the mid rounds.

#22 LW– Quentin Musty 6‘2‘’ 203lbs
#50 RW- Mathieu Cataford 5‘11‘’ 187lbs
#54 LD – Jakub Dvorak 6‘5‘’ 203lbs
#61 RD – Tom Willander 6‘1‘’ 186lbs
#86 LW – Martin Misiak 6‘2‘’ 190lbs
#119 G – Scott Ratzlaff 6‘1‘’ 170lbs

Yeah, they traded their 5th rounder to Montreal in Toffoli trade.

Calgary no 3rd or 5th.

I have NYI so no 1st & 3rd.

This is a feast or famine draft. Tampa Bay has a 6th & two 7ths. Lol

Meanwhile, Arizona has 12 picks & Chicago 11.

13 picks away from pick 132 and I still have a top 60 player or two in my sleeve :)

Boy I don't know what you did at 35 because that woulda been a perfect draft if you didn't go there. Also might be a bit too early for Stenberg but I can live with that.

Got caught up in Anaheim/Arizona comebacks and almost forgot to update.

We're up to date on picks in OP.

LAK's are next pick. GM actually isn't on the clock as last pick was after 10 PM, so he has 6 hours starting from 8 am.

9 picks left in 4th round.

I still have 6 players I really want, just hoping to grab one in the 5th round (or 2!)

Stramel at 35 is a perfectly great choice (he'll go higher 100%), if he develops into a reliable 3rd line winger/center with upside, he will be a huge asset. He's just the kind of guy you don't draft in the top 20, but in the early 2nd round he's too talented not to grab that lottery ticket. Perfectly aware he's more boom or bust. Wisconsin will be losing a lot of players this summer (Gorniak, Caufield's bro), so Stramel will have a leadership role there for a few years (great development scenario) and he'll have Lucius to play with for a few years.

Stenberg, understand the context of Bystedt and Eklund I provided (and Zetterlund now) - sharks are the perfect landing for Otto since he'll have the time to become a good middle line guy (vs. being thrown in a situation where they will try him higher in the lineup).

Of course, I'm playing this draft as if the Sharks are going to trade Karlsson over the summer and tank for real next year, the target being players to play with Michkov. Demidov, Zetterberg, Celebrini or a #1 D like Levshunov.

With the #124 pick, the Nashville Predators select from Warroad High in Minnesota…

MR HOCKEY…center Jayson Shaugabay.

We believe we just landed one of the most skilled players in this draft class. Jayson’s both a goal scorer and an elite playmaker who tore up his high school league with over 3 points per game. He also produced almost a point per game with Green Bay of the USHL. Mr Hockey has committed to University of Minnesota-Duluth for the 2023-24 season.

Nashville is on the clock again. Give me a few minutes.

Here we go! It’s show time!

With the #125 pick, the Nashville Predators select from the Spokane Chiefs…center Tommaso “the Porn Star” De Luuuuuuuuuuuca!

Tommaso was born in Italy and played several years in Switzerland before Spokane selected him in the import draft. He is a big shooter and had an impressive first season in North America. Tommaso has a cult following among high school girls in Spokane where he’s more popular than TikTok. News of our interest in this kid came to light last night when our drunk, senile and deranged GM leaked his name out on HF Boards. That GM has since been fired.
