HF Habs: 2023 Early Bird 15th Annual Mock Draft (COMPLETE)

@bcv provided me his list.

Montreal Canadiens select Aydar Suniev (LW) from Penticton Vees of the BCHL.

A really good pick actually. I think he has NHL upside. There's tools here including a quality wrist shot. He drives the puck to the inside, and generally has strong work habits. He's also 6'2, 205. He's a freight train once up to speed, but needs to work on his overall skating strength & balance.

He's a big scoring winger from Russia who is slated to go to University of Massachusetts 24-25. Not sure what his plans are for next season, but he's having a strong year on a pretty stacked Penticton team.

I would be very happy if we get him with this pick in actual draft.

At 69 Arizona selects Denver Barkey from the London Knights

5. Arizona: David Reinbacher (RD) - Kloten (NL)
14. Arizona (from Ott): Andrew Cristall (LW) - Kelowna Rockets (WHL)
37. Arizona: Carson Bjarnason (G) - Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL)
69. Arizone Denver Barkey (F) - London Knights (OHL)

@zaluty and the 'Nucks are up and have been PM'd

I hate you long time

Just kidding

Welcome to Poland, where accents are being replaced by combinations of weird letters that seemingly don't fit together.

Edit: just for fun, it would pronounce more or less like this: marioush kjyshtof tcherkavski.

And Bjushtevitch.
I know how to pronounce the first one. I served on a dissertation committee of a fellow named Krzysztof.

The St.Louis Blues are very happy to select with their 73th overall pick... in MHL league from Stalnye Lisy Magnitogorsk team... Roman Kantserov!!

"We are all agree in management of this team that we just made a homerun pick right there. This guy will be fun to watch in NHL level"

"The potential of Kantserov is very immense"

"Buchnevich is a happy man today, a another talented russian player will join him one day"

Draft picks so far:

At #9 : Nate Danielson.
At #26 : Mikhail Gulyayev.
At #29 : Koehn Ziemmer.
At #73 : Roman Kantserov.

I will P'M next guy.

Carey Price is an excellent exemplar of why to take a goalie early ;). Were it not for his knee injuries he might still be backstopping the team. The time it takes to mature is offset by the relatively long shelf life, especially compared to forwards.
Not many Carey Prices in this world though. Then he took 6 years before he showed anything. He was the best on top of that.

I would keep our first picks, acquire a goalie like Ullmark. Or sign Samasnov type as UFA. Monty on waivers another example. Let another team draft them, develop them. Then we can steal them around 26-28 years old.

If we take goalie early, odds he is developed within 5 years are slim. Most top goalies come from Euro leagues. Russia majority come from. A late round pick this year, in 6 years likely be our best choice in this draft.

Yeah, I would be happy with this draft. There's a few different scenarios but this is definitely one of them.

I'd put Fowler where Bruz is and I would be calling Viagra for help with an erection that won't go down.

Carolina draft so far

31. Carolina: Lukas Dragicevic (RD) - Tri-City Americans (WHL)
63. Carolina: Jacob Fowler (G) - Youngstown Phamtoms (USHL)
72. Carolina (from Phil): Tanner Ludtke (LW) - Lincoln Stars (USHL)

One of the best offensive defenseman in the draft, also right handed.
One of the best goalie prospects in the last few years.
Ludtke could be a really good support forward with some scoring touch.

Pretty happy with my picks so far. Didn't expect either Dragicevic or Fowler to still be kicking around.

Yeah, Fowler is my choice too. I like Bruz though, but I wonder if we can get him a bit later if we were to pick up a second 2nd, maybe around 50-ish. Probably.

I don't think we're in range to get Bjarnason unless we somehow manage to get a late 1st. Think he goes in Oettinger's range 25-35.

Chicago currently has picks 26 & 34.
SJS 30 & 35.

I think he goes to one of those 2 teams. Fowler is my 2nd ranked goalie, so I would be happy to take him next. I like him a lot.

Fowler's going to Boston College next year along with Will Smith. If we take the latter too, it would be a nice rival between BC & Boston University, where Hutson & Tuch are.

Fowler has come on very strong late in the year. Really made the top two into a top 3.

Tbh, I have no real clue how to evaluate goalies, so I won’t pick any even if the Habs should most definitely be picking one early-ish

Yup, he's been studly last half of the season.

Another player who has really taken off last half is Macklin Celebrini. 2024's presumptive #1 pick. He's been pacing at 2 ppg for 10+ games now. He's going to blow by what Fantilli put up in his D -1 year in USHL.

He's going to Boston University next year, so like Fantilli, he'll be in NCAA in his draft year - playing with Hutson. That should be fun.

I believe the USHL was a bit tougher last year though, with all the COVID-NENIGANS
