I wonder how Bettman and co actually run the lottery? Do they just press 'Sim lottery' in Tankathon or do they have more advanced methods for it?

It’s as trustworthy as anything can be. I am personally convinced that it is 100% legitimate and there has been zero funny business since they adopted this system.I wonder how Bettman and co actually run the lottery? Well it’s not 1 or 2. HahaI thought the poster was talking about where we finish in the standings
When the Oilers won McDavid it proved that the system was legit. Cause the league would have preferred he end up elsewhere. It’s as trustworthy as anything can be. I am personally convinced that it is 100% legitimate and there has been zero funny business since they adopted this system.
100% agree. When the Oilers won McDavid it proved that the system was legit. Cause the league would have preferred he end up elsewhere.
It's not legit, they keep painting our balls with lead paint...When the Oilers won McDavid it proved that the system was legit. Cause the league would have preferred he end up elsewhere.
It makes no sense at all to worry about position at this point. As Bill Armstrong has repeated every chance he’s got with a microphone in front of him. This early in a rebuild it’s about stacking assets and piling good player on top of good player. He couldn’t be more clear and he couldn’t be more correct.I think that given the collection of offensive talent, Reinbacher is way too high. Nearly every pick in the top 15 for this season is highly skilled on the offensive end. Cooley's progress has been amazing, but I think we actually get two players in this draft that are better than Cooley/Geekie combined from prior year's draft. Obviously if we win the lottery or get the 2nd pick, we undoubtedly get a better prospect than Cooley.
If we stay in the 6/7/8 range, we may not be getting a player that far off. In four years we will have the offensive talent. My question is will we have built up a pipeline for D, knowing that it takes defensemen longer to develop, historically. We don't sign FAs very well, so we are literally saying that our offense needs to be so good in 2-3 years that defensemen will sign with us for multiple years.
If we wind up taking a D in the 1st (or 2nd) for that matter, they have to be the home runs that we unearth. Otherwise, not only did our D not get better, we also have went after the defenseman for a player who might be a better asset in general.
He also said a guy like a Bedard could speed the rebuild up, but he’s not relying on ping pong balls dropping correctly. It makes no sense at all to worry about position at this point. Yep. I don’t know if his picks will pan out. But he’s doing what you’d hope he’d be doing. It’s a good plan. Not sure if it will succeed but it’s a good plan.He also said a guy like a Bedard could speed the rebuild up, but he’s not relying on ping pong balls dropping correctly.
I look at it this way. Worst case is we become a San Jose or St Louis who are extremely competitive for a 10-20 year period and have a few years where we have some degree of playoff success and make a run or two at a cup.Yep. Already there. This season was fun.Stanley cup or not, Coyote hockey will be more fun to watch, for a longer time, than it has in decades.
That's not a high bar but I agree lolStanley cup or not, Coyote hockey will be more fun to watch, for a longer time, than it has in decades.
I agree about taking Benson and Moore before Smith. Might even take Leonard before Smith. Probably not, but if you want more of a safe pick. Not me. I love Moore. I would take him at six but not before Benson. I'm taking Benson and Moore b4 Smith though.
Might as well order by size and draft in that order according to this draftSportsnet's 2023 NHL Draft Prospect Rankings: April Edition

Obviously I would absolutely love them to win the cup but if I had to choose, I think I'd choose a team who is a perennial contender for a decade but never wins it over a flash in the pan team win manages to Cinderella their way to a cup one year but doesn't do much outside of that. Those old powerhouse Canuck teams with Naslund and the Sedins never actually won but their fans got to watch literally hundreds upon hundreds of awesome hockey games and exciting playoffs and a cup appearance to boot. Same with San Jose with the Thornton and Marleau era. Basically 10 years of awesomeness and some playoff heartbreak would be pretty awesome. Now sure it'd be more fun to be the next Chicago, LA or Pitt but at this point, I just want a team that's one of the regular season darlings for like 10 years and let the chips fall where they may in the playoffs. Maybe a happy medium would be like Washington, amazing, amazing hockey that you just absolutely love watching every regular season game, followed by a ton of ups and down in the playoffs but you finally break through and win one. Yeah...that's a happy medium...let's do that.Stanley cup or not, Coyote hockey will be more fun to watch, for a longer time, than it has in decades.
That D'Backs team that won the World Series was worth all the down years because of the deferred payments and then some. Of course that was back when I still watched and loved baseball but that World Series win was awesome. Best thing that's ever happened in Arizona sports and it's not even close. It's a shame Colangelo didn't buy the Coyotes. He would have never let it turn in to the circus it's become.Obviously I would absolutely love them to win the cup but if I had to choose, I think I'd choose a team who is a perennial contender for a decade but never wins it over a flash in the pan team win manages to Cinderella their way to a cup one year but doesn't do much outside of that. And we will still be bitching. You get use to always being in the playoffs and then wanting more, and that is the way it should be. It would be nice to be like a Pittsburgh or Chicago rather than a St. Louis, but I won't be picky right now.Stanley cup or not, Coyote hockey will be more fun to watch, for a longer time, than it has in decades.
