Good. I don't think he's got NHL upside but he's a very solid goalie for his age and I could see him do well in the CHL.
Good to see Körbler going to the CHL. He is probably a long shot when it comes to being drafted but I imagine he will develop better in Canada than with the Davos U20 team. Being a late birthday is an advantage for him in that regard as he has more time to get used to the OHL. Lots of Swiss players struggled recently to adjust themselves to the north american junior game recently. While I am not sure if Körbler will have the same issues in his first year, the fact that he plays a somewhat bigger and more physical game than his frame would indicate is certainly not a bad sign for his future outlook in Ottawa.
Körbler isn't draft eligible until 2025. Therefore he's not at all a long shot to get drafted. He's got two years to impress NHL teams and their scouts. Doesn't mean he's gonna get drafted. 2025 is far away and a lot can happen until then but I like where he's at right now.
I overrated the draft chances of a lot of our prospects in the past. There was draft talk about Rochette, Biasca, Canonica, Greuter, Gruber, Hull and Taibel, one of your favourite Swiss forward prospects, when they were the same age as Körbler is now. And in the end none of them got drafted. Even Knak was only taken as an overager and only in the sixth round. De Luca was passed over too even though moving back to Switzerland probably contributed to that. But still, if a team had really liked him enough they would have thrown a late round pick on him regardless.
I think that too, and don’t understand why it’s not resulting in more draft picks. It almost feels like NHL teams are consigned to simply going the Pius Suter route when it comes to Swiss forwards.
Koci more so than Vochvest. But I’m not too excited about either.Should Blazer fans be excited about Koci and Vochvest?
They should be very good chlers... Not sure they make NHL though. 20-80.Should Blazer fans be excited about Koci and Vochvest?
I was positive you'd be smashing Titlbach here.lolWe're a few weeks into the season, so here are some standouts (positively and negatively) after the first handful of games...
+
Adam Jecho, Edmonton Oil Kings, WHL – 5 goals and 5 assists in his first 9 games. Couldn't have hoped for a better start into his CHL career. If he can keep this up, he's certainly top 64 if not top 32 candidate.
Lukas Kral, Spokane Chiefs, WHL – Disappointingly missed the Hlinka Gretzky tournament after being a big part of the Czech U17 team last year but it doesn't look like that hurt his confidence. With 2 goals and 5 points in his first 6 games, his 0.83 points per game rank 2nd among U18 import players in the WHL.
Arttu Karki, Soo Greyhounds, OHL – We all knew that Karki was a strong offensive defenseman, but 6 goals and 10 points in 8 games are mighty impressive. Still shows some of the defensive issues he had last season, but if he can improve in those areas over the next few years, he can be a legitimate NHL prospect.
Ondrej Maruna, Charlottetown Islanders, QMJHL – Maruna had a disappointing Hlinka tournament where he went scoreless and seemed to struggle against top opposition. But he jumped into the Q and immediately became a strong contributor. 4 goals, 8 points in 10 games.
Jakub Fibigr, Mississauga Steelheads, OHL – Not quite a high-end player yet but he's had an impressive start for an 06 defenseman, especially for a player with his size and game style.
Dominik Petr, Brandon Wheat Kings, WHL – I mentioned Kral being 2nd in PPG among U18 imports; Petr is No. 1. Off to a hot start with Brandon, recording 6 goals and 11 points in 10 games.
Norwin Panocha, Chicoutimi Saguenees, QMJHL – Panocha had an excellent camp in Buffalo and has looked good so far for Chicoutimi. A very promising two-way defenseman.
Maxmilian Curran, Tri-City Americans, WHL – Curran is a bit of a sleeper prospect. Never the top guy on the national team or with his club team, but a big center who can play. Had a good start with Tri and I look forward to following his progress.
Ihnat Pazii, North Bay Battalion, OHL – A player nobody really had on their radar, Pazii was drafted out of the Windy City Storm U16 AAA program as a December 06 birthday. With that, his 5 points in 7 games are an excellent start.
Kenta Isogai, Wenatchee Wild, WHL – Isogai decided to go to the CHL when his NCAA commitment didn't work out, and that move is paying off so far. His 4 goals and 8 points in 6 games are impressive, and he looks like an excellent fit for the league.
Matej Kubiesa, Prince Albert Raiders, WHL – Kubiesa's Hlinka performance was a pleasant surprise and he carried that momentum into the WHL.
Lukas Matecha, Tri-City Americans, WHL – Matecha is off to a hot start with Tri, winning 3 of his first 4 starts with a .935 save percentage.
-
Urban Podrekar, Niagara Ice Dogs, OHL – I didn't expect much from him, but he makes the list because for a 4th overall pick, he hasn't shown much yet.
Jiri Klima, Shawinigan Cataractes, QMJHL – Just 1 point (a goal) in 8 games. Not the start you'd hope for from a skilled offensive winger.
Petr Pavelec, Swift Current Broncos, WHL – Not a big-name prospect, but coming into the league as an 18-year-old who was ranked by Central Scouting for last year's draft, I'm sure the Broncos expected more than 0 points in 6 games.
Lukas Hes, Rimouski Oceanic, QMJHL – Similar to Pavelec, Hes is 18, was ranked by Central Scouting – and fairly high at 46 – and is pointless through 8 games.
Tuomas Uronen, Ottawa 67's, OHL – 2 points in 5 games are likely not what the 67's, their fans or fans of the Vegas Golden Knights, who drafted him in the NHL, expected.
Kristers Ansons, Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, QMJHL – Ansons is supposed to be an NHL draft prospect but his play so far has not shown that. 0 points in 9 games don't look great either.
Other notables:
Martin Misiak, Erie Otters, OHL – His 2 goals and 4 points in 6 games aren't bad, but clearly not enough for an NHL and 1st overall CHL draft pick.
Rasmus Kumpulainen, Oshawa Generals, OHL – Similar to Misiak in that he's an NHL-drafted player who's doing well but hasn't shown anything extraordinary.
Adam Titlbach, Vancouver Giants, WHL – After putting his name on the draft radar at the Hlinka Gretzky tournament, Titlbach picked up right where he left off at Giants training camp, being one of the standouts there. He even scored a goal and an assist in his first regular-season game, but 5 games in, he's looking at "only" 2 goals and 3 points. Relative to his hot start to the season, that's a disappointment, but there's little doubt he'll find his groove in the WHL eventually.
Vilmer Alriksson, Guelph Storm, OHL – A Canucks draft pick, Alriksson should be a very good CHL player. So far, he's been fine, but hasn't been a huge standout (except physically).
Roman Kukumberg, Sarnia Sting, OHL – Kukumberg was frequently brought up as an NHL prospect in the "public scouting community" but ended up going undrafted. His start to his OHL career has been good, not great.
Frantisek Dej, Sherbrook Phoenix, QMJHL – Similar to Kukumberg, Dej was a draft favourite for many on HFBoards and Twitter but went undrafted. His start to the Q season was alright but he'll likely have to do more to get drafted.
I was positive you'd be smashing Titlbach here.lol
Great write up and I appreciate it all in one spot like this. Thank you!
Klima is baffling to me. I expected more from Titlbach.
Fibigr is a beaut! People are sleeping on him a bit IMO.
Jecho in round 1 would be amazing.. I've resigned to him being a top 100 pick. Hoping for more.
3 pts in 5 games is not great. You may still be right. You weren't alone and lots of good Czech posters agreed with you. Time will tell!Haha I’ve admitted I was wrong about Titlbach! But the question is how wrong lol. Still don’t love him and he’s not as good as people make him out to be but he’s certainly better than I originally thought.
It’s also not bad. The WHL is a tough league to play in for a 17-year-old, especially coming out of Europe and adjusting to both the style of game and just life on the other side of the globe.3 pts in 5 games is not great. Who are you?lolIt’s also not bad. The WHL is a tough league to play in for a 17-year-old, especially coming out of Europe and adjusting to both the style of game and just life on the other side of the globe.
