GDT: 2023 Caps NHL Draft Thread

Stylistically I heard Simashev’s ceiling being something like K’Andre Miller and my only thought to that is that is an incredibly low ceiling for a #8 overall pick. Miller is fine, good even. But he’s not great or elite. If your ceiling isn’t even great at #8 (great 8 hoho) then that’s not a very good pick.
I would be annoyed beyond measure if the Caps went off board to over-draft someone that's still years away.

Can you imagine if Barry moves up to steal Michkov from us?

The salt would be incalculable.
As much as I'd hate it that we couldn't draft him I'd be ok with him going to Nashville. That market is in desperate need of a superstar talent.

Vegas odds are shifting towards Michkov being taken 2nd OA. Now at 4:1 odds per nhl.com on XM

If anyone takes OUR russian I hope he instantly says will never report to that shithole Oviless shitty.
Aside from us getting Michkov which is obviously best case scenario, next best case is keeping Bedard and Michkov in the West so if he goes to Anaheim so be it.

Would the Ducks really be willing to put their rebuild on hold? I feel like they should be close to the point where they graduate their prospects and try to turn the ship around.

Seems wild, but that's just my football brain working.

Two "late" first round picks plus a good goalie prospect isn't really that attractive an offer. Even if they don't want Michkov, feel like they'd not want to drop out of the top 10 at least.

ESPN has the draft. Any pre-game show? Nope. NBA free agency talk and WNBA.

Great job

Dana White is an awful human but he's 1000% right. The dinosaurs in this game are doing unimaginable damage too it.

On whether or not to trade up to 4 or 5 or 6 in the draft, there are just too many unknowables for me to get too concerned about it. Teams in the top 10 don't often trade those picks, or trade down, for a reason. This year is seen as an especially deep draft. It's totally possible that teams are asking an insane price or just saying no flat out. Who knows. I'd be OK with trading up in theory, but we can't know whether the proposals being thrown around here would be enough to get it done.

Maybe the attitude concerns RE Michkov have something real behind them. Maybe other teams don't like our prospects. etc. etc.

Nail Yakupov was also seen as a can't-miss prospect at one point. Michkov certainly *seems* like he's on another level, but nothing is certain. Imagine trading a king's ransom for a player who ends up being a bust. That'd be disastrous.

Or we could stay put at 8 and get a player who's very likely a difference maker. Michkov could also fall to us without having to do anything.
