Ohio (OH? IO.)
9) Dvorsky
17) Moore
41) Nilsson
42) used as part of the trade for Debrincat
43) used as part of the trade for Debrincat
73) Trey Augustine (I'm betting he'd still have been there)
After that: I have no idea

I just hope the picks we made prove me wrong.

9. Phelan

17. I wasn't joking, I wanted Phelan at 9

41. Confirming with the league that we're allowed to draft overager Phelan

42. Brady Cleveland

43. Quadrupling down on Phelan

73. Sign Phelan to his ELC mid draft

117. Fast track Phelan's arrival at development camp

137. Name Phelan to the starting roster, burn all 3 years of his ELC

147. Let Brady Cleveland realize his dream of becoming "a solid 3rd pairing depth guy" by putting him on the 3rd pairing with Seider, who was obviously bumped down the lineup to make room for the vastly superior Jack Phelan

169. Have serious internal discussions about a bridge deal vs a long term extension for Phelan

201. Sign Phelan to 8 x 8 extension

1 Danielson, only because Stevie never screws up the first pick
1 Oliver Moore
2 Carson Rehkopf L Kitchener Rangers [OHL]
2 Oscar Fisker-Molgaard C HV71 Jonkoping [SweHL]
2 Lukas Dragicevic D Tri-City Americans [WHL]
3 Caden Price D Kelowna Rockets [WHL]
4 Andrei Loshko C Chicoutimi Sagueneens [QMJHL]
5 Kaden Hammell D Everett Silvertips [WHL]
5 Visa Vedenpaa G Karpat (Finland Jrs.)
6 Zeb Forsfjall C Skelleftea AIK Jr. [Swe-Jr]
7 Zaccharya Wisdom R Cedar Rapids RoughRiders [USHL]

Aside from the first 2 picks which were not available to the Kraken, I just used their picks, lol. Maybe the Wings should start using analytics as part of their draft strategy.

In any case, it seems a lot of us like Molgaard.

I tried to beat the brass, but Vincent Kennedy McMahon always taught that the brass rings were invisible.

I liked their picks. They drafted low compete/high skill guys with their first 2 picks, will be curious to see how that plays out over time.

Excellent! More mocks for 2023! Now that we have reposted our desired list of players, let’s now compare the results of our mocks versus reality to come up with a quantitative score to see which is objectively better and whether or not we “obviously beat the brass” using perfect information in hindsight with zero alterations to the other actors plans based upon our new decisions!

Take that, Draper and Co! Anyone can do your job better than you!

Draft night:
9. Dvorsky
17. Barlow
41. Augustine
42. Gibson
47. Fisker Moolgard
73. NDN
At the time of each pick this was either who I really wanted or was at least happy/ok with the pick

Now, after Dev camp:
Dvorsky
ASP
Augustine
Gibson
Fisker Moolgard
NDN

Im much happier with the ASP pick after watching his interviews and seeing what they saw in him. I still want Dvorsky over Danielson. I think Nate will be a player, but I still only see him as a B potential and a B floor. I really wish they would have gone for what I see as the potential A level player with the slightly higher risk.

Yup, I called Sale "Poor Man's Mantha", lol. Analytics don't really show compete level, but at least they skipped on Perrault who can't skate well enough to play the system.

You did notice that I went with Moore, not Sale. You should've heard me cussing when Chicago picked him, I was certain Francis would pick him because he fits the system. Imagine a line with Moore and Burakovsky.... speed for days.

I literally just gave up after the goalie pick, lol, I didn't pay attention anymore. These were my three guys at the time and now. I'm definitely not a draft brass either but once it gets too late in a draft idk what people are even talking about anymore.

Kind of interesting that we had three swings and didn’t pick him. Could be telling

Maybe, but I get a feeling that it was more picks to fill identified needs. They put a lot into defense and toughness this draft to fill those needs. Maybe Detroit thought he would be there in the third round?

According to Max Bultman, OFM had some terrific interviews at the combine. Some of the scouting reports I read on him noted great skating but unsure what his talent ceiling is and that his shot was incredibly week.

For me, he's that kind of prospect where he's solid across the board but nothing really stands out so it's hard to gauge his upside as a pro. He is very mature and quite smart so he's gonna be a gudpro. I'm not surprised he interviewed well and found a way to play 41(!!!) SHL games but yeah, the upside was hard to read for me. I like the prospect and would have been fine with him in the 2nd round. He's a safe bet to be a player.

So Zadina with feet? Is that better than poor man's Witkowski? We'll find out.

Not at all. OFM drew comparisons to Mikael Backlund. I draft that kind of guy 100 times out of 100 over Cleveland.

I was being facetious. I mean Zadina with feet is an obvious joke, lol.

Cleveland would have been a meh pick at 5th round or later, as a second round pick it's flat out stupid. Draper's team once again got fixated on a "hard to play against" player from NTDP and picked him second round. That absolutely needs to stop, what a complete waste of draft assets. At least wait until the third round like they did with Mazur. Second rounders should be used for high probability players.

I think the biggest problem with Draper is the Bertuzzi pick. He got lucky once, so he's gambling every draft now. He's like gambler that won money his first time at the casino, and doesn't realize he's losing money every time now.
