Comets passing is so bad. Every other puck released form a Comet stick is:
- slow and easily picked off
- behind or out of the reach of a guy who was wide open in his own end, neutral zone, attacking zone 1o feet or 30 feet away . It doesn't matter.
-clean passes missed, flubbed, bounce off the stick, overskated, etc.

Rockets go up 3-2. poor D-coverage.

Criscuolo walks off the left side after a Rocket misplayed it at his blueline.

Cris went behind him picked it up and went in alone a scored on a backhander!

It's now 3-3 with
The Comets get one right back to tie it up at 14:34.

Great stop by yet another Comets turnover in the
circle. Roy wide open for another shot. Thank God for Poulter on this one at least.

Stillman crosses the ice alone, falls down as he shoots it, and it's wide.

Comets back to the PP. This will haunt the Comets in the 3rd.
Game management will even this up.
Comets 4th PP to Laval's one.

Comets pass it back to their points and splits them all the way down. The PASSING!!!!!

Parent throws it high and wide from the top of the slot.

Halonen _________________________SCORES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keeper smashes his post with a two-hander.

A rocket falls down completely on his own and the crowd erupts with boos wanting a rtip.

Laval responds to no call with 2 hard hits.

Period 2 ends with a 10-man scrum.

4-3 Utica
SOG: 12-9 Utica
2-period total: 23-16 Utica

20 minutes to go in a game where who knows. Turnovers galore by the Comets.
Great chances by each team. A game that started out with both teams playing tight D and all of a sudden it's chaos at both ends.

Comets have lost 8 straight, the last 2 to this same Rocket team.

I wouldn't be shocked if the Comets win this one.
I wouldn't be shocked if the Comets lose this one.
The Comets fan base has learned not to be disappointed by a loss since it had become more of a norm at home than a win. That was even before this horrendous streak.
7 of their last 8 games were at home and they lost every one of them.
These 2 teams are in a battle for the North basement. It's not like the Comets are RIGHT behind them. Laval has a 5-point lead and the Marlies are only 1 point ahead of them. 9 games without a win would put them in a really deep hole and it's not like it all turns around when they get their guys back from NJ. They were digging this hole with lots of help with those guys having lost 8 of them with those guys in the lineup.

Buckle up. Here we go for period 3.

Scrappy and sloppy both ways right off the bat. Laval seems possessed.
Comets not managing a lot of anything but getting the puck out.

Comets get it out and then turn it right over on every shift.

Comets penalized for a high stick to Vukojevic. Here comes the game management. They are due 3 if that's what's going to happen.

Poulter stops a second shot after Criscoulo's block went right back to the shooter. Big stop by Poulter. Russo knocks one down and gets it out.

It is all Laval. Wotherspoon clears after Dowling steals. Laval back in and it's a GOAL.

Tied at 4-4

Durandeau and Halonen challenging Halonen stopped. Durandeau just can't get it away. Dowling can't ge tit in.

2 on1 Laval - wide.
2 on 1 Utica - wide.

More rushes both ways but shots are missing left and right.

It's a track meet with little thought of defense.

Big chacne for the Rocket Halonen blocks.

Poulter a shoulder stop on a hard shot. Dowling trying to get something going but he's ridden off.

TVTO 7:42 to go. This is where the Comets have lost the last 3. Giving up goals in the last 6-7 minutes leading to 3 OT/Shootouts.

Comets passes continue to go right to Rocket players even when their is no challenge before they pass.

Laval icing. That's a different act.

Clarke gets a pass in the slot and as usual can' t do a thing with it when challenged.

4:45 TV TO Go--------Maybe?

Comets are now engaged in a 7 games in 11 days stretch.

1-timer and Poulter stops it.
3 on 1 Comets Halonen sends and a back hander to an open Clarke and it's behind him. PASSING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Out of a scramble Schmelzer finds himself alone in front. He's stopped, but Halonen cleans it up in front.

G______________O___________A____________L!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comets back on top with 2:11 to go.

Laval goes to the faceoff 6 on 5. They are in and Dowlinfg shoots at the open net and misses. Icing.

They score 1:40 to go and it's 5-5. Took them 31 seconds.

Roy stopped by Poulter.

Comets trying to drive passes and shots through players and it doesn't work.

:30 to go.
Out of play

:24left
Comets have it for the remainder but can't get anything to the net.

WHAT A F**KING SUPRISE! OT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4 in a row.

Comets usually spend the OT in their own end.

Dowling brings it down and Clareke shoots it wide and the Comets lose posession.

Comets with control and a pass is into Criscuolo's skates. PASSING?Q!?Q!?!

Parent stopped.

3:45 to go.

Durandeau shoots wide and it goes all the way down. Comets retireve.

Dowling pass to Clarke bounces away from him.

Laval pressing but screwing up their own efforts.

Parent screws up. Durandeau and then Gamby drives the net stopped.

Gambardella gets it back. Keeps battling all over the zone to try and hold on. Comes off the left boards on the backhand into the middle, changes to forehand across the net front and ___________________________________???????????????????????????

B__U__R__R__I__E__S -------------IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

COMETS F++KING FINALLY WWW-IIIIIIII-NNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!

6-5 Comets in OT

The streak ends at 8.

Big game for the Thunder going on right now.

They took the Eastern Conference w/ win % yesterday when Greenville lost but they can take it with points if they take down the Newfies.

Goalie prospect Tyler Brennan is backing up Brodeur today.

Brennan was injured but I see that he was also the back-up for their last two games: Jan 7th (Purpura start) and Jan 6th (Brodeur start).

Jan 6th was the first time Brennan’s suited up for them since he played on Nov 29th.

Brennan spent some time with the Utica team before that (Nov 13-20), and then played much better, so it’s too bad about the injury. It would have been nice to see if he could maintain that play.

Cleveland Monsters vs Utica Comets

Forwards:
21 Durandeau/26 Schmelzer/24 Halonen
15 Gambardella/51 Criscuolo/ 61 Stillman
67 Parent/10 Dowling/92 Clarke
18 Isley/16 Engaras/79 Laberge

D-pairs:
83 Vilen/5 Russo
8 Hatakka/23 Wotherspoon
3 MacKinnon/2 Vukojevic

Goal - 40 Schmid

Comets came out of the gate in a different manner. Instead of a slow moving cautious outfit prone to mistakes and early goals, they came out with new plan. Go hard from the opening puck drop and attack the O-zone.

It couldn't have worked out better. I think they caught the Monsters by surprise and they were flat footed.

Isley got it going tipping a shot from Wotherspoon high in the center of the zone to give the Comets an early 1-0 lead at 3:00.

3:40 later Halonen converted a cross ice pass from Gambardella to make it 2-0 game. A PPG.

They didn't stop there. 4 minutes later Stillman sent a centering pass from Gambardella past the keeper to make it 3-0 at 10:37.

At that point the Comets took a breath and the game turned right around with Cleveland spending a lot of time in the Comets end. Schmid called upon to keep his team on top. Near the end they caught the burn again and pestered the Cleveland keeper and caused the Monsters to intentionally ice the puck to take the pressure off.

Cleveland begins the comeback, On a delayed call ex-Comet Gaudette buried a rebound to make it 3-1.

They are right back in. Schmid holds on. Get your heads out of your butts boy or it will be bad news.

Dowling and Clarke go 2 on 1 Clarke shot off the far bad doesn't rebound in Dowling's reach.

Schmid is getting lots of push back from the Monsters who smell blood.

Comets forecheck which was very strong in the 1st has fallen off considerably.

Cleveland players are continually open near Schmid. Sometimes TWO of them. Team D is really lax at this point while Cleveland is ganging up to put pressure on.

It looks like the Comets are trying to protect a lead way too soon and they are never good at it anytime so this is dumb. Cleveland more than doubling Utica in shots thus far in the period.

Clarke shoots wide from the top of the circle after previously whiffing when attempting to shoot the puck in.

Schmid a save and he holds on.

Shot blocked and it goes up to the ceiling, but while the Comets argue and point at the ceiling, a one timer is shot into their net. The zebras confer. Have no idea what went on. So, they call it a good goal.

3-2

I just knew that one way or another the Monsters would get back into this one, but that way is just inexcusable. However, the Comets have to keep playing and then argue at the next time out.

Schmid is facing some very good shots.

Comets making futile effort after effort to put pucks past Monsters to clear their zone. The Monsters just stop the soft weak efforts and just keep things going. It's sad. Put some muscle behind it and slap it past them!

Comets to the PK.

Comets send it down.
Back in and the Comets clear it down again.
Here they come again and Schmid holds onto the eventual shot.
:57 to go
Lose the draw, but eventually clear it down Utica after failing with an open chance to clear and turning it over first and Akira makes 2 big stops after the failed clear.

Comets 2 on 1 and Gambardella loses it just as he thinks about shooting. D-A-M-N!!!! That was there!

Period comes to an end.

A tale of two periods.
It truly was the best of times (period 1, 3-0 Comets)
and the worst of times (period 2, 2 goals for the Monsters and it's 3-2)

SOG:
17-9 Cleveland
2-period total 26-20 Cleveland

Prosperity is something this Utica team has had a very difficult time dealing with all season.

Comets came into this game still only 6 points out of a playoff spot.

However, they are only 4 points out of the basement of the entire AHL. Yup, only 4 points ahead of the AHL sewer.

The Comet's penalty kill is still number 1 in the league.

The dismal PP has moved up 2 slots to #34 in the AHL. It has been effectibve of late allowing them to make that move.

Period 3 gets under way

Clarke continues to be dumbfounded as to how to get past a single defender in his path anywhere on the ice.

It seems as if there is no confidence among these guys to keep the puck on their sticks. It's like it's a hand grenade they must get rid of. The ensuing pass is so often unattainable or duffed or the puck is just lost on their own as they skate with it.

Clock is ticking like a slow dripping faucet.

Vukojevic does exactly as I just described has it near the blueline and his effort to claer it past the Monster fails and the guy walks unmolested to Shmid who has to come up big.

Duandeau a good chance stopped.

3 more of those stinking failed zone clears. It will bite them in the ass before this is over.

Scrum at the blueline and the Monsters turn it into a shot on goal.

Crazy trying to ride a 3-0 lead halfway through the 1st.

Schmid another big save

Criscuolo a big block. Comets almost playing like it's the last minute.
Comets keep dropping back into the NJ 5-man muddle in between the dots. A terrible idea.

It's like trying to stop onrushing tanks with jeeps.
