It would be hilarious if this was followed by absolute radio silence until the camp.Extension coming?
Hoping for something absolutely shitty so we can laugh at the Leafs.

I think it would be hilarious if he signed for 15 million AAV but only for 2 years. It would be hilarious if this was followed by absolute radio silence until the camp.

That's about as maximum chaos as I imagined possible. Shortish term, maximum money. That's horrible for the Leafs.4x$13.25M
So not maximum chaos, but pretty insane honestly. Dude is absolutely looking to make the maximum amount of cash in his career.
It's perfect for his plan to join the Coyotes right as they become competitive. That's about as maximum chaos as I imagined possible. Shortish term, maximum money. That's horrible for the Leafs.
...and move to Salt Lake CityIt's perfect for his plan to join the Coyotes right as they become competitive.
It's basically perfect for Matthews. The Leafs are going to be hard pressed to be upper echelon competitive unless Matthews and Marner decide they actually care in the post-season. However, they will be good enough to allow Matthews to be productive in that period. He will then be able to seek a higher contract value after McDavid and Draisaitl have signed their next contracts. That's about as maximum chaos as I imagined possible. Shortish term, maximum money. I'm not saying he was disappointing at all... just saying his production increase is specifically from one area. If he doesn't get that opportunity again (IE RyJo takes his spot... which I think is likely), his production is likely to suffer as an overall. His ES production was pretty much unchanged and I wouldn't expect that to change much.Sure. Top players have a big % of their points coming from the PP, tell us something new.
The point stands, Lehkonen was hardly disappointing. In fact, I think for the most people he played a pretty damn good season. 65 point, 26 goal pace had he played all the games. Even if his production falls off to say 50 points and 18 goals, that's still pretty damn good value for 4,5mil, not to mention what else he does besides his scoring.
@henchman21 we will add another capable top 9 forward before the season begins, and have Kovalenko coming at the end of the year. I think we will also get another guy off waivers/league min for some insurance but not banking on it. Overall I think we will be okay, and be a lot better come playoff time.
I know you want to rest the top guys for the regular season, and hopefully they won't be leaned on as much but they've had a long summer, way longer than last year. They should be refreshed.
He's well within his rights to do that... but frankly, as high as this AAV is, he could have gotten more as a UFA.4x$13.25M

I think they all get more.Draisaitl’s getting $14M in 2 years. McDavid’s getting $15M+ in 3 years.
Yeah sounds about right... maybe half mill more, but in that general area I think.Draisaitl’s getting $14M in 2 years. McDavid’s getting $15M+ in 3 years.
Byram should get a big raise the same year then 2 years later Makar.Which means Rants... 13.25-13.5m
I think they all get more.
Cap still hasn't officially gone up yet so there's still that little bit of uncertainty left.
If they get that official $87.5M cap next year and a true end to the flat cap, I bet Leon gets $15-16M, McDavid comes in at $17.5M. And a couple years later if the cap is rocketing towards $100M+ Matthews will get the first $20M deal.
He's going to get 8 years and get paid like a superstar until 39. That has been the plan all along.4 years? That's really weird to me. Lending your contract at age 31 is definitely a gamble.
Yep!All of a sudden Mack and his 8x$12.6M starts to look pretty damn decent quite frankly.
A fair contract at the time that will quickly turn into a sizable discount yet again(Until he starts regressing at least).
If he’s still playing in 5 yearsHe's going to get 8 years and get paid like a superstar until 39. That has been the plan all along.
