Drouin is replacing ERod and RyJo is replacing Compher.
The production between Drouin and ERod might not be a huge difference, but ERod is a much better player in all areas except passing the puck. He actually plays a bit physical, plays defense and shoots the puck. I'm not the biggest ERod fan around, but it seems pretty logical to me that you could make a case for ERod being the better player.
Now RyJo and Compher is an interesting one. Compher had his best season as a pro last year... and RyJo arguably had his worst. If they play exactly like last season, then Compher is clearly better. If they both play to capabilities, RyJo is clearly better.
To me, it isn't black and white on them being upgrades.
There is a lot of hope springs eternal going on, and a lot of certainty it will all fail. All the players the Avs brought in are high risk/reward guys. It could go fantastically and everyone succeeds right away... or it could complete crash and burn. If the Avs just get last year's versions of Drouin, RyJo, Colton, and Wood... the Avs will be more of a wild card team, maybe fighting for the playoffs. If all 3 play to their peak, the Avs are a far deeper team with some actual center depth, which should push them towards the top of the West. It could fall in either camp and it wouldn't at all be shocking. Odds are that it'll be a mixed bag... but we won't really know until the season is well underway.
