2023-24 Senators Prospect Watch

Nordberg should be ready for chabots spot no? Next year will be draft +4 for him and we’ve taken the slow route with him. Given him time to develop and hone his talents.

Next year should be his year

He'll be brought in as a Black Ace.

Don't think he'll get in, if he does we are against the wall

Ellinas and Andonovski agaisnt Montgomery on Friday

Calgary just threw away their next 3/4 seasons with all the trades they made to try and do something this year.

They would have been much better off selling Yak, Tulk and co for hauls anfd building a super team for 2027-2030, they were never a team good enough to run thre table in the W

So he didn’t go off in game 7
He made an absolutely braindead decision to attack off a turnover where he tried to flip the puck to himself cutting into the middle of the ice, then juswt seemed to decide not to even try and ger back before they scored. Literally a controller disconnected situation, looked very, very bad

He's caught up ice so much, trying to glide and stickhandle through 3 guys

Really disappointing performance to end the season. I don't know why Calgary management thought this team was worth going all-in for. They lost two of their bigger adds (Howe, Hauser) to injury, but that didn't change the lack of scoring punch on the roster. Up front, it was basically just Kindel who had any pop. Heck, their second powerplay unit had three defensemen on it at times last night.

Yakemchuk did not play well. I've generally liked his game in the playoffs, but not last night. On the positive side, he was very active in pushing for offence and he did create several chances through his instinctive ability to recognize opportunity. It was another game where he could easily have picked up a point or two just by having more skill around him (e.g. he sprung an entire forward line onto a 3 on 0 breakaway and they somehow ended up without a shot). On the not so positive side, it was another game where it felt like his offensive abilities couldn't live up to his offensive ambitions. All night he was fighting the puck - bobbling it, overskating it, missing it entirely. I was getting flashbacks to Colin White trying to stickhandle through traffic. He consistently made questionable decisions when attacking, often trying the nearly-impossible deke or pass instead of taking the shot or showing patience. Maybe he can start working with Sigalet, too. It's not like he doesn't have offensive tools, but the tools need refinement.

Defensively, there were ups and downs, but that wasn't really the end of the ice where he stood out. His -1 came at 4 on 4 from a turnover he made in the offensive zone, another rush play where he attempted what would have been a ridiculous dangle, it got broken up, and the play went the other way. It wasn't a good turnover, but it also shouldn't have cost them a goal. He had Mynio plus a veteran forward behind him covering and the forward totally lost their man. Overall, Calgary was trailing for most of the night and they didn't spend a lot of time defending when he was on the ice.

And then, at the end of the night when the team went to centre-ice to salute the fans for the last time, he barely participated and was first off the ice. Read into that what you will, but it stood out to me as a shitty move from a guy wearing an A.

Yak out of a job now, or will he become a Blackace?

He's not ready to play NHL playoff games. I'm sure they'll fly in him in to be around the team, but I don't think he's an option to play.

Obviously a long playoff run would have been better, but he needs to have a big summer of training, so getting that started a bit earlier is a bit of a silver lining.
