2023-24 Senators Prospect Watch

It's interesting to go back and watch this video now, having seen how his D+1 year has played out. A lot of what's changed in his game was telegraphed in the questions they asked and the things he said.

Still makes me laugh the 120 minutes in PIMs and cross checking and using the lumber was a headliner for Fargher and they couldn’t take the 5 minutes to put together where the penalty minutes came from for him

spoon fed all the way.. Not a knock on Yak but you'd get 100/100 giving the same answer to these
has it come fast for you - yes its come fast
how you handling it - I think pretty well
did they give you free reign on offense - yes
did it help or hurt - helped
you know what we are getting at .. more points or more rounded next year - more rounded
you ok with someone taking a hard hit every shift - yes
you don't have a problem pushing back - no

Safe to say you wanna be the best version of yourself coming into camp next year?

Given Ottawa's bottom 3rd & 4th pairings ... & the two RD being Hamonic & Matinpalo ... I would rather have Yakemchuk RD in that spot tbh. I expect Yak will likely start in Belleville next season, but I could see by Christmas Yak could be playing with Kleven & move Matinpalo to the 7th D spot. The following yr when Jensen retires or leaves Yak could take his spot & maybe Matinpalo gets his 3rd pairing spot back when Yak moves up.

2025 - 2026
Kleven - Yakemchuk - I think Yak will be so much better on the 3rd pairing & will really help Kleven get the puck out of their end
Gilbert - Matinpalo

Lethbridge fans might just be hockey's most fun group of folks.

I just watched a group of guys construct a pyramid out of beer cups. I was into it.

Calgary wins it in OT. I mentioned Adaszynski earlier. He was elevated to the first line and had two assists. Good for him.

I don't think I have ever watched a CHL game where there was such a clear separation between one defender and the rest of the group in a game. Calgary was pinned back in their zone when Yak was not on the ice. Yak was a breakout machine - rinse and repeat. Quietly dominant.......

The coach must of told Calgary to try and end it early, because they were extra aggressive from the jump in OT. It almost cost them.

Yakemchuk needs to cut down on the dangles - just shoot the puck or dump it in the corner.

This is huuuuuge. I don't know this guy, but he has decent numbers in the USHL and the Calgary forward group could use the help.

In Saint John I believe it was "attempted" with Marc McLaughlin, without a playing guarentee, but was much tougher in 16-17 without the new rules. They wanted him along for an extended playoff/Mem Cup run

He was in Prep if I remember as well rather than the USHL. Can't remember anything like that happening before, going to be lots of new things with the NCAA/CHL rules

Unfortunately it's not in the WHL's highlights from the game - which are horribly edited - but the Tulk goal all started with a Yakemchuk breakout where in basically one motion he absorbed contact, spun off the forechecker and made a quick outlet pass. It was the kind of play you see Sanderson routinely make, where you think to yourself, "damn, that was smooth". It was an NHL play.

Really strong game for Yakemchuk, I thought.

He’s really going to help solidify our pairings when he gets here.
Kleven-Yakemchuk has some real potential.
