We also used a 1st AND a 2nd on Mathieu Chouinard - we picked him 15th overall in 1998, he refused to sign, and then we picked him 45th overall - with the compensatory pick we received for not signing him - in 2000. He bounced between the IHL & ECHL for 3 year and then walked to LA. Ended up playing 1 game with them.

Just before we drafted Bashkirov in the 2nd round in 2007, we had a run of Russian 2nd round picks:

2002: Alexei Kaigordov
2003: Igor Mirnov
2004: Kirill Lyamin

Between the 3 of them, there was 6 NHL games played.

Jonny Tychonick is pretty bad. They stopped inviting him to their development camps a year or two after drafting him, and he never got an ELC. He's at least playing pro right now though.

Gabriel Gagne needs a shout here too. He was a mediocre QMJHL player, couldn't do shit as a pro and now he's in prison for sex crimes. His criminal record dates back to before the Sens drafted him.

He wasn't picked in the first 2 rounds, but for my money Tim Boyle is the worst/funniest pick they ever made. Apparently Bob Janecyk 'saw him good' at some shithole tournament in Boston so they took him. It never seemed to register to them that he was a 19 year old playing high-school hockey or that he was 7th in scoring on his team. Madness. It went about as well as you would expect.

When they drafted Brad Peltz in the 7th round of the 2009 draft, I can recall the story that they only drafted him because Peltz's father was the Snapple Billionaire that was sniffing around at the time as a potential big money investor to the Sens. Good times.

The Sens try to graduate a couple of players each yr, this yr they graduated Greig & JBD & next yr I expect they should graduate Kleven & Ostapchuk. I expect that Brannstrom will either be traded or will go back to Europe & replaced by Kleven who has the size, toughness & the hitting the Sens need on the back end. The other guy who should graduate is Ostapchuk who can replace Kubalik who has been a complete disappointment. Ostapchuk can play centre or LW & also brings size, toughness & is hard to play aginst, they need another guy to make life miserable for goaltenders & win some board battles. The Sens should also get an early 1st rd pick in the 2024 draft & depending on who it is & how good he is, he could make the team out of camp.

Might be a bit soon for Ostapchuk next season. Give him another year with the B-Sens. Give him plenty of minutes, play him in all situations. Let him build his game out more before bringing him in.
He will get there. Just don't think it should be just yet. Unless, of course, he comes in at training camp in and won't be denied.

If there's a spot open on the 4th line, and they haven't brought in anyone better, let Crookshank get a shot. He deserves it. Almost point per game at the AHL level, undersized but scrappy. Jarventie is the other guy that might get an audition next year. I had written him off but I get the feeling he might blossom at the NHL level. Just a feeling.

Kleven and Guenette will get games on D next year. Not great but that's what we got. Personally, I'd keep Brannstrom as there are always injuries and we need him for depth. The biggest need is goaltending. Staios has to work some miracle trade to bring in a strong, reliable goalie.

Pinto long term in the top 6? Yeah he’s been great. Maybe a little more pizzazz. Lindstrom just moved to center. So he can def play wing if needed. But that list of d men at the top is super enticing too. If that big LHD is there for us we need to take him I think.

Brad looks pretty happy to win the Pemrose again. No prospects at UND this year unfortunately; they had the opportunity but .. The players coming out of their system are so well coached. Currently UND is ranked 3 in the country behind BC and BU. Hope to see them make it to the frozen 4.
