There's a balance between easing him in and wanting to give him wingers that play to his strengths, and it seems like the coaches are less concerned with the former and more with the latter.

Personally I'm not too concerned with easing him in and he can always be moved to shelter if it's not working. For the same reasons I think people shouldn't get too attached to that Mac line either. But anyway I hope it sparks Z and Terry who have only had flashes of good play so far. That's almost $13M right there!

Yup good points here, throwing him on a line with more skilled wingers is going to bring the best out of his abilities. We saw in the rookie tournament when line-mates could not get on his level of playing.

I also agree that the Mac line, is not something that is guaranteed to stick, and think Killorn coming back will give us a better idea of what is more likely to stick or not.

Killorn and Rico could be 2/3 of a really good grinding defensive line that could score and soak up some minutes against opponents' better offensive lines, whether you call it a second or third line or what have you. It'd be great if that could work out. That would free up the other guys to do more damage and spend less time in their own zone, which is not exactly their strength.

Why not start Leo on the 3rd line to ease him in, no need to give him tough minutes right away. Gives Rico time to hit his stride as well.

There was an instant jump chemistry when Carlsson centered Z and Terry. For the past two games, the Rico-Z-Terry line needs a jumpstart. So going back to Z-Carlsson-Terry is one way of jumpstarting it and giving us more scoring with our top-2 lines.

As for sheltering/easing Carlsson in, I think Cronin will play the Mac line for the tougher duties.

Line speculation? Rico gets dropped to the 3rd line?

Carlsson/Zegras - Carlsson/Zegras - Terry
Vatrano - McTavish - Strome
Jones - Rico - Leason
Carrick - Groulx - Silf
Johnston

Jones and Leason have chemistry from last year when Mac centered both. Rico can help elevate both wingers and provide defensive help as an offensive forward.

Strome needs to continue to play like a power forward with Mac. That feeds into Mac's game better and opens up F3, D1, or D2 to expose the defense. That power game helps keep us in the offensive end as well as change momentum when called for.

Rico at 3C and Groulx at 4C means we can potentially run the table at faceoffs from 2C to 4C.

Putting Carlsson with arguably our two best forwards is a huge departure from Eakins. It makes so much sense, yet Dallas would've never done it, certainly not this early.
Eakins wouldn't let him play in back to backs, let alone on our top line lol

I think the GM might also have say in things. Paid $5 mil a year to Strome, so he starts at center kinda thing.

I thought Carlsson had to sit out 3 games? I'm too Getzlaf to look at the IR rules tho.

I believe it is miss out on 7 days or 3 games. A week has passed since the start of the season. Huh, coincides with Leo being back on the ice.

He never let Zegras (and I believe) Drysdale play in back-to-back games... They were always in the press box for the second half
Without checking to see if this is true, and you might very well be right, it could have been sent down from on high to limit their games played and preserve a contract year.

Can someone please get a hold of Silf's phone and delete the incriminating pictures he has of the coaching and front office staff?

I love the guy for what he brought to us eight years ago. He was a beast during that run to the conference finals against Chicago, and was very good for years after. But he's cooked. I'm happy to let him toodle around on the PK and 4th line, but we're trying to score on the PP. Silf is not the guy for that any more.

(Silf power play goal incoming against Dallas...)

These were the seasons that they played 20+ games so don't think that was it. I remember him also doing it to Regenda and Comtois. It was just an Eakins thing.
