For the most part I agree but I hate to set a hard bar. I certainly don’t see Poitras as a sure fire superstar. I like him very much but sometimes the trade market is a buyers market and if that’s the case this year then I’d love to take advantage.

I don't see Poitras as a superstar, but a wily, excellent Bruins center for years to come. To me, you don't trade home grown talent of this kind. Dealing Matt, imho, would be a mistake.

OT I am so sick of Sweeney and Neely. They better realize what they have in Poitras.

Deal Lysell. Deal Merkulov. No problem in this corner.

So the mere suggestion of trading Poitras bring you around to being so sick of Sweeney & Neely?

I Don't get it.

This makes it sound like everyone is 5’7”. Not one of their dmen is listed under 6’0”.

If your small ala Gryz who’s listed at 5’9” but is most likely 5’7” or less you better have redeeming qualities. Up until this year he did at least during the regular season. It also helped he had great chemistry with our #1 dman. This year he’s been awful and what’s worse looks extremely tentative with physicality. Avoiding contact in a lot of instances.

And that’s almost two inches shorter than average. And lighter.

The point wasn’t about Grizz anyway of course he’s smaller.

My #1 target if we were to go get a Center would be Sean Couturier! He's the closest clone to Patrice Bergeron there is in the NHL. Lots of term left, just turned 30, signed at a reasonable dollar amount. Philly will eventually start falling out of the playoff race, their team just isn't as good as where they currently sit.

What's he cost? No sweet clue!

Hard pass.

He's already had two back surgeries and at age 31...it's questionable whether he will be there when the B's need him. I don't hate his AAV. I do hate his term. He is signed through 2029-2030...that's a long time for someone who has missed as much hockey as he has.

This one has a Backes-esque vibe to it.

Think how healthy we are at the deadline will decide a lot. If we're VERY healthy, I think Sweeney going and getting 2 complimentary players would be nice. That's about all I'd do.

The UNLESS is unless there's a prospect they really feel won't get there that they want to cash in on now. But this is information I don't have.

I would deal Merkulov but I would hold off on Lysell. Trading him too soon has a Filip Forsberg feel to it.

Merkulov doesn’t have a place to develop as a 3C on this roster and quite frankly, I think it’s his ceiling

No idea what his value would be around the league on his own

I am basically with you there. I think GM is a guy who needs to be a top 6 guy, and I don't think he will ever fit as a top 6 guy here. This is why I have said in the past I wish he played better as a wing, because I'd love to see him there, but sadly he has never played well at wing in the minors

I would love to get Middleton but Carlo is a better player, I would not swap them

I think the flames could do better than Debrusk

I would probably do Carlo+ for Hertl (depending on the +) but I’m not sure the Sharks would be looking for somebody on Carlo’s timeline. Although he could be a great leader for them as they develop back into a respectable franchise

As the saying goes "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog". The Bruins need one or two of a McQuaid/Miller/ Seidenberg/ Boychuk or a Ference type back there. love Carlo but the man just isn't built to play that type of game, Grizz beautiful skater but can't handle it when the intensity picks up. McAvoy to me is all-world , he does everything big Big heart, to go along with his elite skill level. Lindholm despite his size and skill doesn't have that quality either. This doesn't mean there isn't room for a Carlo/ Lindholm on this team of course there is, but imo without any question this team needs a bad ass or two on their back-end, preferably two who can play the game and bring a whole lot of nasty and toughness with them.

So we could draft someone like a Lysell or Poitras. Makes sense.
Exactly. If we were to snag Anaheim's pick, well that's something.

But if you are drafting in the 20's + -- well, don't expect Pasta's every year or even decade.

Trade Carlo hmmmmm, have you looked at who is playing on the Bruins defense lately, not sure trying to make a good addition like Hertl, makes sense when you need a defenseman. I would also add that Hertls contract would be very difficult to add to this roster.

Rough outline:

Carlo for Middleton and extended JDB for extended E. Lindholm or Carlo+ for Hertl.
How do you think the defense would look after this deal? Wotherspoon has looked good, but I don't know if he could regularly handle top 4D minutes.

It's the left D I keep feeling uneasy about for a playoff run.

Right being Charlie, Carlo, Shatty and now Wotherspoon...you have to feel amazing about that. Is there any NHL team with a better RD numbers 1 through 4?

The left though...Gryz and Lohrei I'm not excited about for playoff hockey. Forbort and Hampus have their work cut out. We need their best. I'd love a new body on the left.
