You could easily reword that to:

"So the Bs have played 12 in a row without Forbort, and have 3 regulation losses. Buffalo, at Minnesota, at Winnipeg. Hardly convincing that the current lineup desperately needs him. I’m not saying it would have been any different if he had been in, but some posts want to believe the team needs him for truculence and the PK, and I just don’t see it"
2.75 GA/Game since he's been out
78.1% PK since he's been out

Vs.

2.46 GA/Game before he was out
89%PK before he was out

Can't just be a coincidence...

Lohrei is competing for offensive ice time. Forbort competes for defensive ice time. Forbort kills PK. Ok at 3rd pair. Lohrei won’t kill penalties once Forbort is put back in. So, Lohrei is really competing for the “no special teams” LD first pairing slot against Gryz. This isn’t about Forbort.
Also Forbort on the ice for a big chunk of Dzone face offs

I don't. I think this was the #1 reason the Panthers beat us.
I think it was because Ullmark was clearly injured and they didn't shut down Lindholm and allowed him to play a month on a broken foot before the playoffs even started.

I hate the idea of a goalie posting a 30 save shutout in game 1 and not going back to the same guy for game two.

Correlation doesn’t equal causation. We had a pre-holiday slump and I’m not sure Forbort of all players changes that.

I'm hoping he surprises me as gets more NHL XP but to me, Merk's best attribute is his shot with the rest of the physical package still very much a work in progress. Skills and IQ seem fine - Good hands, awareness of where to be, but as an average/below average sized kid, he doesn't have that extra giddy-yup in his skating stride that makes him stand out on the ice nor does he seem slippery enough to evade defenders. It's what eventually doomed Andy Hilbert's career. His shot is a legit weapon though and what will keep him as a tantatlizing prospect.

it really would be easier if Merk was a better fit at wing. He seems to fit this org much better in a wing spot than at C, and I fear is never going to be a regular C for the B's. unfortunately by all accounts he has been better at W than C, so i suspect ultimately he will be moved

He played C all year this year. And was tearing it up.

After taking a look at their cap situation, this actually makes a lot more sense to me now.

$63M (roughly after this contract is signed) for 8F, 3D and no goaltenders. Leaving like $24M to fill in the holes.

Compare to us: $60M for 9F, 4D and 1G. But with FA Swayman and DeBrusk to concern ourselves with. It’s widely considered that we will be out of cap hell.

Similar boats. If I were the Leafs, I’d be making this deal too.

You forgot the part about the team being world beaters without him. Also, I’m pointing out the 5 wins aren’t against great teams. But you certainly are in the crowd that doesn’t believe he adds any value. It’s just that Derek is on his 4th team and probably 8th head coach and ALL of them saw value of some sort. I respect your point though.

I think our biggest advantage is on defense which usually eats a lot of money and we already have 3 top D signed + Lohrei (Leafs just two).

it can absolutely, 1 million percent be coincidence. You are familiar with hockey, right?

Werent you the one who posted after 3 games without Forbort that they hadnt let in a goal on the PK yet? Just curious were you familiar with hockey at that point or just now when you decided to be condescending? If you thought that sample size was appropriate why now is it potentially a coincidence 8 games later?

When is it no longer a coincidence, or will it always be because Forbort is so disliked? Another coincidental 2 PP goals against and 6 GA tonight....

I think they’re better off moving him at the deadline for a package that includes a quality goaltender or defenseman with term and use whatever is left over from the 11/12 million they’d have to pay him in free agency.

True. But I think our goalies are conditioned not to play every game.
