Turns out Gritty & Lando have already met. And they begat the PWHL's first mascot ...

My opinion on AI image generation has immediately gone to 100% negative, so thanks for that, you monster.

And this is how you do it. No women's sports league will ever survive if women don't support their leagues like men support theirs. And this is the right way of doing gender-themed advertising. This is what has legs; "if you don't watch us, you're a stinky misogynist" works for a bit, but has a shorter shelf life than Torts.

That's not at all what that Bauer video was about. It wasn't saying why aren't women supporting women. It's saying why aren't girls/women being given the same opportunities as boys/men. Why does a girl have to changed in a closet at the rink? Why can't girls watch women on TV? Why aren't there girls teams to play on. Any woman/girl born two decades and later know exactly what it feels like to be made to feel that hockey is a boys sport & you're in a vast minority worth a bucket in a closet to get changed.

And don't dismiss the shards then shower of glass falling from the ceiling. Many layers of meaning in that message.

PWHL Toronto put PWHL Ottawa back on their heels in the opening minutes of Saturday's early game. But OTT finally woke up (after an 11-day pause), then capitalized on overlapping minor penalties to TOR to take a 2-0 lead midway, with initial goals by Czechian national Kateřina Mrázová (her second of the season) and a first tally for Gabbie Hughes (Minnesota-Duluth graduate). Toronto-born and BC+Wisconsin star Daryl Watts scored her first of the season unassisted with just 15 seconds left in the period, giving Ottawa a 3-0 lead entering the first intermission.

There were a noticeable number of gloves up-sticks high challenges by Toronto defenders on Ottawa puck pursuers. One of those yielded one of their penalties, so Toronto needs to be more strategic with their physicality. Maybe the scrum as the 1st period horn sounded got some of it out of the home team's system.

Final score in Toronto: OTT 5 - TOR 1. The final Ottawa goal was off the stick of Gabby Hughes (her 2nd tally of the game), after a quick sequence of very good passes to evade the Toronto defenders.

Another sellout @ Mattamy Athetic Centre - including a small group of Ottawa supporters (probably team family members) - but the TOR fans leave disappointed.

End of one in Quebec, BOS 0 - MON 0. Several strong offensive chances at both ends, but two U.S. collegiate graduate goaltenders displayed their talents: Ann-Renée Desbiens for Montreal (DI women's career shutout record holder & University of Wisconsin- Madison star) and Aerin Frankel for Boston (Patty Kazmaier winner with Northeastern University in Boston).

Two goals 29 secs apart for Montreal early in the 2nd: Erin Ambrose & Laura Stacey. The crowd @ Verdun is rockin'.

ETA: But in the 5th minute, Taylor Girard (Lindenwood University - my hometeam - and Quinnipiac U) scores a SHG to erase remaining penalty time for Boston.

ETAx2: THEN 1&1/2 mins later, Hannah Brandt ties it 2-2 for the visitors.

End of 2 periods, BOS 2 - MON 2. The gameplay reverted from frenzied to merely fast paced after the first 6 minutes. The slow down allowed the PbP pair to catch their breaths as well. :phew::phew:

Looks like an OT win for Montreal 20 seconds into extra time. But the play is under review ...

ETA: NO GOAL, goaltender interference charged against Montreal. Play on.

BOS 3 - MON 2 is the OT Final. Amanda Pelkey with the GWG.

ETA: Pelkey is the University of Vermont's all-time leader in goals, assists & points. Solid resume.

End of 1st period in St. Paul, Minnesota 2 - New York 0. Scoring opened with a Lee Stecklein shot from the point that had eyes, her first PWHL goal & Minny's first goal from a defender. Forward Kelly Pannek also scored her first, unassisted after deftly stepping around two NY defenders at their blueline. New York's major accomplishment was killing off a long 5-on-3 disadvantage, before Minnesota rippled the twine.

End of two, New York back in it with a PP tally by Alex Carpenter (her third G of the young season). That gave New York a big energy boost, which they'll need to stretch in the 3rd period. For now, MN 2- NY 1.

One subtle thing I've noticed in most of the PWHL games so far: When there are physical engagements between/among opposing team players right before or after a whistle, more often than not there are smiles on the faces under the cages/shields of the women as they part ways. Seems like a clear reflection of their newfound freedom to play the game with fewer rules restrictions, especially among the younger players..
