I appreciate that Houle is playing Roy and Farrell together, and on the first line too. They're arguably the best prospects on that forwards corps.

I do wish Mysak would get more of an opportunity.

Agreed on #2 and I'm surprised Houle ever broke up Roy-Farrell.

They were dominating together for the 2 games they were together.

Okay we are at 10 games. How long do we give Houle & the rest of the alumni nepotism? We need player development….badly….as I stated last year, other than MSL there is no evidence of coaches impacting player development positively. I know it’s been a problem here for along time and I was censured many times speaking out against Therrien & Lefebvre. Have you seen the big clubs PP? Why is Burrows on our bench? People around here wonder why the vets get all the ice time (when they don’t work for it) and the kids sit, look at the alumni vet’s posing as NHL coaches????? I like the Cube, Vinny, Lapointe & Ramage but come on other teams have evidence of positive player development & strong drafting performance…..how long does it take? Houle’s father destroyed the team before anyone took notice, same with Therrien he was a development killer who was allowed to pollute the team for years before anyone did a thing. Let’s not wait forever to move on to more talented people.

Houle and Burrows (and Letowski) should have already been gone.

This is a valid criticism of Hugo.

I hate putting Gignac on the first line instead of trying some of the younger guys ( Kidney, Mysak, Davidson). The season is already going in a terrible way, might as well try some guys in a higher position to see if they can grab and run with it.

Gignac is being Darche'd.

He's been one of their best players though so it doesn't bother me, if he keeps this up I think the Habs will sign him and we'll see him in the NHL ala Condotta last year.

I'm waiting to see what they do since Gorton made it sound like re-signing Houle was in the bag right before the season started and then you had the whole Mesar thing where Houle said they plan on keeping him around for a few weeks but that he has to have the TOI to improve. Right after he said Mesar would be here for weeks, a day or two later he was sent down.

So that makes me wonder if everyone is on the same page or not and what they do with Houle will be very interesting since he's in the last year of his contract and the team looks like total shit. Granted such a young team it will take time to adjust but either way it will be very interesting to see what they do here.

But most of his blueline isn't new.

Trudeau, Struble, Norlinder, Beaudin and Galipeau were all there last year.

Bisson played for him two years ago although admittedly the system changed.

Keeper, Mailloux and Linsdtrom are new.

Laval right now: 2 new G (technically 1 G, but Dobes was there last year and did not play), 3 new D (+1 coming back), 8 new F

1st in:
Atlantic, Hershey: 3 new D, 8 new F
Central, Texas: 6 new D, 4 new F
North, Rochester: 2 new G, 2 new D, 7 new F
Pacific, Henderson: 1 new D, 8 new F
Good breakdown!!!

He seems entirely counter to their philosophy.. I really can't get behind extending him.

A week off is ridiculous this early in the season.

Anyways, Houle seems to have the same issue as Lefebvre in that he plays to win, puts vets in all the key positions (Hughes obviously limited his options in net and on D this year), and then says well we're losing cause we have new guys, or it's a development league.

I don't think he's as bad as Lefebvre by any stretch. I think it's hard to transition to a new regime when you were clearly hired for nepotism reasons to begin with. He's been passable all things considered. I can't imagine he stays beyond his contract though, you'd think they'd want a handpicked guy in there for a team relying on development.

Sly was a bad coach that is still coaching only because he's buddy with most of the league.

Houle is just an old school coach.

Given that MSL is a very new school coach, I think we should get a similar guy for the AHL spot.

Wouldn't be mad at taking a shot at Pominville, Gagné or JP Dumont.

For assistant coaches, PM Bouchard, Mathieu Perreault, Bergeron and Brassard could be good ''newbie'' tries. Hell, I'd even try Bergeron as head coach as long as he had some tactical assistant coach to help him.

I think Joel Bouchard is the best recent Laval coach.

He was pretty charismatic and seemed to be loved by the prospects.

According to Weise, vets weren't fans. I assume Peca, Barber and Varone felt similar as they were shipped out during the year.

So he was definitely a coach that needed specific kind of vets, but I still liked him over Houle.

He did bomb his showing in San Diego as he was fired after a year. He also didn't find a coaching job he liked last year.

He did find one this year and Syracuse and is doing well although he's getting help from the Hurricanes as they don't have an affiliate so Kochetkov as been loaned there and given them 3 wins.

Last guy that was overwhelmingly liked and gave result was Guy Boucher.

Houle gets a lot of heat and I don't understand a number of moves he makes with his roster but he's done a really good job with some of the prospects like RHP, Ylonen, Simoneau, Roy, Farrell, Trudeau, Struble, so far. They all have gotten the TOI that you would want to see so I'm glad for that. But if they don't bring him back or fire him I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, not that I think he will be fired but I don't know if he's the solution.

I think the LD-LD RD-RD makes no sense so we'll see as it sounds like they might go with 7D in at least some of the upcoming 5 games starting Sunday afternoon.

Apparently the same threshold Bergevin had for Therrien.
