Logan Lambdin makes it 7-1. The horn can't sound soon enough for KC.

End of 2 periods, 7-1 Florida. Chippiness after whistles has been replaced by hacks & whacks & wrestling during play. KC in a serious hole, they need to get through another period without injuries or suspensions or showers of beer from their fans.

Riese Zmoleck gets his second goal, which was actually a Mavs' own goal. 8-1 Florida with 13 minutes of embarrassment left.

Mavericks squander a 3rd period power play that might have silenced a handful of boo-birds. Fans are filtering out of the Cable Dahmer Arena bowl with 9 minutes left.

Final Score in Game 1 = Florida 8 - Kansas City 1. Besides outscoring the Mavericks (significantly), the Everblades were 5-for-5 on the PK tonight. 'nuff said, good night.

A clear case of Mr. Cohn & his subject matter getting ahead of themselves ...
Mavericks Have Impressed, But Can They Follow Brabham Cup With Kelly Cup?
Jun 01, 2024
Justin Cohn

The Kansas City Mavericks have a chance to do something no ECHL team has done since 2014 – follow a regular-season championship with a playoff championship.

One of the great things about hockey playoffs is that they’re such a great test of any team’s mettle – especially in the ECHL where, unlike the higher-level American Hockey League, every round is best-of-seven – and time has shown that it’s incredibly difficult to sustain a consistent level of success from October through June.

The Mavericks, however, might have the chops to do it. ...

The Allen Americans are in search of a new head coach and general manager after parting ways with Chad Costello on Thursday. The 37-year-old Costello was hired prior to the 2022-23 season and accumulated a 70-67-7 record in two years behind the bench. ..

With Costello's firing, the Allen Americans and Worcester Railers are the only teams in the ECHL yet to fill their head coaching vacancies.

Game 2 puck has kissed the ice @ Cable Dahmer Arenal.

Prediction: This game will be out of reach by the time the first intermission comes around. I'm not gonna say for which team. 🤐

1:30 in, 1-0 Everblades. Zach Berzolla with the tally.

And on the ensuing shift, Florida takes a 4-minute penalty. Chance for the Mavs?

ETA: Chance? Yes. Success? Not on their playoff lives. One SOG to show over 4 minutes of 5-on-4.

KC was awarded another man advantage with just over a minute left in the first period, but they were unable to capitalize. End of one period, 1-1. But I'm sticking by my "out of reach" prediction ... there's an undercurrent of impending doom despite the tie score.

Game 2 in the books, Final Score = Kansas City 5 - Florida 1. FLL pulled their goaie with just under 3 minutes left, but Cole Coskey & Max Andreev ended any comeback chance with ENGs. The Mavericks figured out how to play defensively against the Everblades (slow them down the middle in transition), and took advantage of inevitable Everblades penalties to generate more scoring. Both teams should be happy to be tied heading to Estero for Game 3 on Wednesday night.

I've lived in KC for 30 years. It's not a great place to be a hockey fan. I loved the Blades, but the IHL folded and the DeVos' took their ball and went home to Grand Rapids. We have a dubious history with ice facilities.
Since the IHL days, this is the best minor league hockey team I've seen since Larry Dyck was between the pipes for the Blades.

I was there last night.
Look, I love living in KC and I'm glad the stands were full, but Kansas City hockey fans are not good fans.
Not every time a Mavs player falls is it a penalty. Ice is slippery. Contact is allowed. Every big hit by an opponent isn't a penalty. When two players are grabbing each other behind the net and the ref puts up his arm and points at two players, it means he's taking both guys. If Nachbauer comes in and full-on uppercuts a guy in the scurm, it's an additional minor for roughing (and a dumb one). All he had to do was push the Everblade up against the glass and facewash him. No penalty. He didn't do that. They made the right call. The officials can't call every chippy play behind the play. It's the playoffs. The second period was chippy. You can't call a penalty on every chippy play. No advantage? No penalty. Those two young officials did a very good job in a very difficult game to officiate.

Stop watching the puck. When a Mavs player (Borchardt, I think) deflects a dumb Everblade clearing pass up the middle, thus creating a turnover and a two-on-one in the offensive zone, I shouldn't be the only guy in the section to stand up. Berzolla stretched and deflected the pass....still, it was a quick 2-on-1. Stand!

When Josh Ho-Sang takes the puck into his own zone to create space, he's not "going the wrong way" and if you call him "slow", you're not a good hockey fan. He was the fastest guy on the ice (but, boy does he make a lot of mistakes, no wonder he can't stick in the 'A').

And, the cowbells. OMG. I know I just have to live with them, but, ugh, so annoying.

OK, so that's all. Great battle. Great win. I hope the series gets back to KC for Game 6. With LaFontaine in net, I think it will (not sure why Morris started G1).

I get your long-growing frustration, BUT ... If you think all of those behavioral tendencies in bold font above make the people attending Mavericks games "not good fans" then 80+(+)% of minor pro hockey fans across North America fall in that category. So after many years of attending this level of hockey & SMH over such people, I prefer to consider them "typical hockey fans" and enjoy the game in my personal "good hockey fan" bubble. Everybody paid to attend the event (or got their tickets from somebody who did pay), so everybody has the right to react to the entertainment in the ways they deem appropriate - within the bounds of what used to be "polite behavior."

I'm missing your point on the "Stand!" comment. But one of my pet peeves is "hockey fans" instinctively standing up in front of me when a fight starts or on a breakaway (many taller than me & thus cancelling out any value of rising from my own seat), so I'll just accept our difference of opinion on that topic. And as for the cowbell tradition, I recommend you consider it part of the "charm" of this level of hockey & worry more about what hearing damage the 🤬 Cable Dahmer Arena 140 dB level of music (if you can call it that) is dishing out to ~6,000 KC-area live sports consumers & visitors & arena staff every game night. 😖

Shit like this makes me want to crash a Richmond city council or citizens open microphone ranting about echl hockey….
